NCAA REGIONALS ARE APRIL 6
The Utah gymnastics team begins its quest for a berth in the 2013 NCAA Championships on Saturday, Apr. 6 at the Tuscaloosa Regional in Tuscaloosa, Ala. The meet will start at 6 p.m. CDT in Coleman Coliseum on the University of Alabama campus. The teams in order of seed are Alabama, Utah, Denver, Kent State, Brigham Young and Iowa State. Utah must finish in the top two to advance to a record 38th-straight national championship and 32nd-straight NCAA Championship. Twelve teams from six regionals will qualify into the NCAA Championships in Los Angeles on April 19-21 (see sidebar on page 4 for region sites and teams).
ABOUT THE FIELD
All six teams in the Tuscaloosa Regional have advanced to the NCAA Championships at least one time in the past, led by Utah, the only program to qualify for all 31 NCAA Championships to date, and Alabama (30 NCAA appearances). Utah has won 10 national championships (nine NCAA) and Alabama owns six NCAA titles. Utah and Alabama are tied for most Super Six appearances with 18. Brigham Young has qualified for eight NCAA Championships, Denver and Iowa State have both made three trips to the NCAA's, and Kent State qualified for the 2011 NCAA Championships.
The Utes will fly to Atlanta on Thursday, Apr. 4 and then bus the 200 miles to Tuscaloosa ... Friday, Apr. 5 is a training day and the Utes have been assigned the 4:00-5:46 time slot in Coleman Coliseum ... Utah's rotation order at regionals is bye, bars, beam, bye, floor, vault.
