The Utah gymnastics team begins its quest for a berth in the 2013 NCAA Championships on Saturday, Apr. 6 at the Tuscaloosa Regional in Tuscaloosa, Ala. The meet will start at 6 p.m. CDT in Coleman Coliseum on the University of Alabama campus. The teams in order of seed are Alabama, Utah, Denver, Kent State, Brigham Young and Iowa State. Utah must finish in the top two to advance to a record 38th-straight national championship and 32nd-straight NCAA Championship. Twelve teams from six regionals will qualify into the NCAA Championships in Los Angeles on April 19-21 (see sidebar on page 4 for region sites and teams).


All six teams in the Tuscaloosa Regional have advanced to the NCAA Championships at least one time in the past, led by Utah, the only program to qualify for all 31 NCAA Championships to date, and Alabama (30 NCAA appearances). Utah has won 10 national championships (nine NCAA) and Alabama owns six NCAA titles. Utah and Alabama are tied for most Super Six appearances with 18. Brigham Young has qualified for eight NCAA Championships, Denver and Iowa State have both made three trips to the NCAA's, and Kent State qualified for the 2011 NCAA Championships.


The Utes will fly to Atlanta on Thursday, Apr. 4 and then bus the 200 miles to Tuscaloosa ... Friday, Apr. 5 is a training day and the Utes have been assigned the 4:00-5:46 time slot in Coleman Coliseum ... Utah's rotation order at regionals is bye, bars, beam, bye, floor, vault. For complete rotation orders (determined by the NCAA), see the bottom of page 1 ... Utah has won 27 regional titles (including 24 of 31 NCAA) and finished second the other 10 years. Last year, the Utes won the Salt Lake Regional ... Utah has a returning regional champion in Georgia Dabritz, who won the uneven bars as a freshman last year ... Utah has seen just one team in the Tuscaloosa Regional this season, beating BYU on March 1 in Provo, Utah (197.125-195.500) ... Utah's series record against its 2013 regional opponents follows: Alabama (18-26-0), Denver (16-0), Kent State (4-0), BYU (89-2), Iowa State (7-0) ... Rotating with the Utes will be at-large all-arounder Lisa Burt of Michigan State.


Tory Wilson, who became the first Ute ever to go undefeated on an event during the regular season (10-0 on vault), tied for second at the Pac-12 Championships with a 9.95. Wilson has the most event wins by a Ute since Ashley Postell won 11 beam titles in 2008. Another milestone is Theresa Kulikowski's 12 victories on bars in 2001 ... Wilson, Dabritz and Becky Tutka all have top-10 event rankings. See "In the Rankings" or the sidebar on page 3 for more ... Dabritz's 39.700 all-around score against Florida is tied for eighth in school history and Wilson's 39.650 is tied for 10th ... Utah has lost two All-Americans for the season to injury: Junior five-time All-American and 2012 Pac-12 all-around champion Corrie Lothrop ruptured her Achilles in the fourth meet of the season. Missing the entire season due to knee surgery is sophomore vault All-American Kailah Delaney.


Utah has 15-4-1 overall record, going 10-2-1 in the regular season and 5-2 (third) at the Pac-12 Championships on Mar. 23 in Corvallis, Ore. ... Ute individual winners are Georgia Dabritz (15), Tory Wilson (14), Becky Tutka (4), Mary Beth Lofgren (3), Corrie Lothrop (3), Nansy Damianova (2) and Lia Del Priore (1) ... The Utes have hit 251-of-264 routines. Gymnasts without a fall are Breanna Hughes (22-22), Tutka (22-22), Lia Del Priore (19-19), Kassandra Lopez (17-17) and Lothrop (15-15) ... Three Utes have scored a 10.0 this season: Wilson on vault vs. California (Feb. 9), Del Priore on floor vs. Stanford (Feb. 23) and Dabritz on bars vs. Florida (Mar. 16) ... Utes won nine Pac-12 weekly awards this season: Dabritz was the Pac-12 Gymnast of the Week on Jan. 22 and Mar. 19, and the Specialist of the Week on Feb. 12; Wilson was the Specialist of the Week on Jan. 22, Feb. 5, Feb. 19 and Mar. 19; Del Priore was the Specialist of the Week on Feb. 26; and Hughes was Freshman of the Week on Mar. 12.
