WALNUT CREEK, Calif. -
Eight Utes were named to the 2013 Pac-12 Conference Women's Gymnastics All-Academic first and second teams--comprising a third of the 24 selections--the Pac-12 Conference office announced today. The announcement came as the Utes were en route to Los Angeles for the 2013 NCAA Championships, which will be held from April 19-21.
Utah claimed nearly half of the 12 first-team all-academic positions, led by two-time first-team selection Hailee Hansen, a junior with a 3.95 GPA in communication. She was joined on the first team by junior Lia Del Priore (3.84, math teaching), junior Mary Beth Lofgren (3.90, health education), junior Corrie Lothrop (3.70 health education) and sophomore Becky Tutka (3.81, business).
Making the second team were sophomore Georgia Dabritz, junior Nansy Damianova and sophomore Tory Wilson. Kassandra Lopez brought Utah's total number of honorees to nine with her honorable mention citation. In fact, every Utah gymnast who met the criteria was named to a team. Freshmen are not eligible for the all-academic team, ruling out Utah's three-member freshman class, and a student-athlete must be a starter or significant contributor, ruling out sophomore Kailah Delaney, who has missed the entire season with an injury.
The minimum cumulative GPA required to meet the Pac-12 All-Academic team standards is a 3.0.
