SALT LAKE CITY - The Utah gymnastics team opens official practice sessions for the 2013 season on Monday, Sept. 10.

The team will train Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday afternoons from 1:30-5:30, and Wednesday and Saturday mornings for two hours. Practices at the Dumke Gymnastics Center (230 South 1850 East) are open to the public.

The 2013 roster includes 10 returning letterwinners and three freshmen. Five All-Americans are back in juniors Corrie Lothrop and Mary Beth Lofgren, and sophomores Georgia Dabritz, Kailah Delaney and Tory Wilson.

"I think our leaders on the floor will be Corrie Lothrop and Georgia Dabritz," said Utah co-head coach Greg Marsden. "A number of others contributed on one or two events last season, but we really need them to step up and fill some holes left by the loss of our three seniors who were all very consistent and dependable athletes."

Five gymnasts are gone from last year. Cortni Beers, Stephanie McAllister and Kyndal Robarts exhausted their eligibility. The Utes have also lost Fumina Kobayashi and Victoria Shanley, who were forced to retire early due to ongoing injuries.

"Victoria had developed stress fractures in her back and shins, and our doctors felt that her body would simply not tolerate the demands of gymnastics. We've placed Victoria on a medical hardship scholarship and she will continue to contribute to the team as an administrative assistant," said Marsden. "Fumina has been struggling with a bad back for the past three years. It continued to deteriorate to the point that she couldn't train consistently enough to prepare properly. She's interested in enrolling in medical school, and this will allow her to finish up her prerequisites and focus on the application process."

The Utes have added freshmen Taylor Allex (Becker, Minn./Classic Gymnastics), Breanna Hughes (Champlin, Minn./Twin City Twisters) and Haley Lange (Bellevue, Wash./Auburn Gymnastics Center). "All three are very talented and should make an immediate impact on the team," Marsden said.
