Box Score

CORVALLIS, Ore. - The University of Utah soccer team (5-2-2, 0-1 Pac-12) dropped its Pac-12 Conference opener on the road at Oregon State (9-1-0, 1-0 Pac-12) by a 2-0 score Friday.

Oregon State's Jenna Richardson netted a goal in each half, capitalizing on a pair of Ute miscues. Following a turnover in midfield, Richardson gave the Beavers a 1-0 lead with a long-range effort in the 35th minute. Richardson tallied her second of the match in the 75th minute as she intercepted a pass back toward the Utah goal and walked it in for the 2-0 final score.

Following the game, Utah head coach Rich Manning thought that despite the loss, the Utes played well apart from a few mistakes that hurt them in the end.

"We played very well, I'm really proud of the team's effort and competitiveness tonight," said Manning. "We had the right mindset on the road and we really came to play against a very good OSU team. We had the aggressiveness and composure to do well on the road. I think we can be better and more precise in the attacking box. We have to clean up a couple of mistakes we made in passing but if we playing like this in the rest of our games, we can have a lot of success."

Utah dominated the box score but the Beavers were able to capitalize on their scoring chances. Utah out-shot Oregon State 16-13 including a 9-5 advantage in shots-on-goal. Freshman midfielder Kaycee Buckley (Thousand Oaks, Calif.) led the Utes with four shots, all of which forced saves from OSU goalkeeper Sammy Prudhomme.

Corner kicks went 4-3 for the Utes as well, while fouls were whistled 11-5 against the home side. Redshirt freshman Lindsey Luke (Corona del Mar, Calif.) made three saves in the Ute goal while Prudhomme recorded nine stops to earn the shutout.

The loss snapped Utah's seven-match unbeaten streak.

Utah now returns home for five consecutive matches, beginning Sept. 28 against Washington State. The game will be televised live on the Pac-12 Network. Kickoff from Ute Field is scheduled for 1 p.m. MT.
