SALT LAKE CITY - The University of Utah women's soccer team fell to No. 2 Stanford by a 1-0 score Friday at Ute Field as the Cardinal (10-1-1, 4-0 Pac-12) ended the Utes' perfect home record in 2012. Utah (7-3-2, 2-2 Pac-12) held Stanford to its fewest goals in a conference game this season.

"Our players had the right mindset for this game and they played with confidence, and that was the first step for us," said Utah head coach Rich Manning. "I thought we did some nice things, especially in the first half. For 90 minutes we defended very well. Our offense tailed off in the second half, we gave away the ball and got a little impatient. But if you look at Stanford's games, they wear teams down in the second half and I thought that's what happened today. I thought it was still a good measure of our team and how far we have come since the beginning of the season."

Stanford scored the game's only goal in the 35th minute of play as Nina Watkins beat Utah's offside trap and got on the end of a free kick taken by Rachel Quon from just over midfield. It was just the second goal allowed by the Utes at home this season.

Emily Oliver saved the Utes' only chance on goal, while redshirt freshman Lindsey Luke (Corona del Mar, Calif.) made four saves in the Utah net.

The Cardinal out-shot the Utes 12-4 overall, with shots-on-goal going 4-1 against the U. Corner kicks went 3-0 in Stanford's favor, while fouls were whistled 12-5 against the home side.

Utah is now 5-1 at home this year and 2-1 in Pac-12 home games. The Utes had won six consecutive games at home going back to 2011. Utah gets back in action on Sunday as they Utes host California at 1 p.m. at Ute Field.
