SALT LAKE CITY-Old resentments hung over the field today as the Utes marked their revenge over the Lady Bulldogs. Last season, Utah's 2-0 loss to Fresno State knocked them out of the WAC Championships. Today, in a 5-0 victory, the Utes boldly proclaimed their intentions of attending this year. This brings the Utes to a 9-7-0 overall and a 3-1-0 record in the WAC. The Utes took control of the game early when Tara McNeil sent a ball to Aly Hill at the 3:04 mark. Freshman Lorrie Tipton put in two including an unassisted ball taken up-field from the half. Tara McNeil came back to score a goal off a corner kick and Staci Burt also headed one in. Bernie Hogan, Lorrie Tipton and Aly Hill also contributed assists.
"We had the disappointment from Thursday positively focusing our energy offensively and defensively. The athletes are very close as a team and when they're on, they're on. Today we were very focused and organized, we won fifty-fifty balls and went hard the entire game.
Lorrie Tipton controlled the mid-field and was outstanding offensively. Staci Burt worked hard setting people up for the score. She's really had to learn how to play when marked and she really worked.
The players had a little resentment going into this game and revenge was on their mind. But I think it's been quenched." Head Coach Amy Freeman Winslow says.
