SALT LAKE CITY - Utah soccer head coach Rich Manning announced the addition of two new student-athletes this afternoon. The Utes added University of Portland forward Mikayla Elmer and Oregon State University defender Audrey Gibb.
Elmer, a local product from West Haven, played in 10 games last season for the No. 11 Pilots. A four-year letterwinner for the Fremont Silverfoxes, Elmer earned a spot on the Salt Lake Tribune First Team All-State while in high school.
She played with Utah State ODP and with the Region IV ODP while also suiting up for both the Rampage and the Utah Avalanche, in the Elite Clubs National League. Current Utes Megan Trabert, Cheyanne Mulcock, Hannah Hyde and Sammi Swan also played for the Avalanche.
"Mikayla is an artist with the ball," Manning said. "She can break down a defense with her dribbling and create chances for herself and her teammates. She is passionate about soccer and an excellent student."
Gibb, who played at East High School here in Salt Lake City, played in 16 matches and started six as a redshirt freshman for the Beavers this season. She was named to Pac-12 All-Academic Second Team with a 3.87 GPA after returning from a knee injury during the 2012 season.
At East HS, Gibb was named first team All-State and the regional Defensive Player of the Year in 2011. She was ranked the no. 13 prospect in her region coming out of high school and was also a member of the Utah Avalanche.
Gibb led her team to the Disney College Showcase championship, the SC del sol President's Day Cup Championships and the Las Vegas College Showcase championship. She was also a member of the Utah Olympic Development Team and was invited to the regional camps in 2006 and 2009.
"Audrey has fantastic qualities and brings Pac-12 experience with her, Manning said. "She has great speed and is a tough defender. She will also attack from the back, which is a something we like from that position. Audrey is also an excellent student."
