Utah Soccer Adds Five for 2014

SALT LAKE CITY - Utah Soccer is pleased to announce the addition of five student-athletes for the 2014 season - Madi Clarkson, Mariah Elmer, July Gentry, Janie Kearl and Natalie Vukic.

"Our 2014 team is complete today," head coach Rich Manning said. "We have come to know these young ladies well over the last couple of years and I am confident in saying they are true Utes. We search for players that fit our Utah values to the core: hard work, passion for soccer, great teamwork, excellent ball skills and taking care of business.  Madi, Mariah, July, Janie and Natalie certainly personify those qualities. Our team is already hard at work getting ready for our 2014 season and we now have everyone on board. Here we go!"

Manning on Clarkson:
"Madi is a physical midfielder with a good defensive presence, especially in the air. She also has very good skills and is composed on the ball, which is important with our playing style. Madi came to our summer camp last year and we were impressed with her hard work, passion and team-first attitude."

"July is a talented young goalkeeper. She has great physical qualities. She is mentally tough, composed and courageous. July has exceptional foot skills (she made all-state in high school as a midfielder), which is important for our 'keepers. July also leads by example through hard work. We expect her to continue the long line of quality 'keepers we have had here over the years."

"Janie is fast and skillful. She is an extremely versatile player. She can play on any row and still find ways to contribute. We like her passion for soccer and how quickly she picks up on concepts. She also has great character. Janie comes to us from East High School, which is the alma mater of Audrey Gibb, Katie Reineke, Lauren Porter and Megan Trabert, all great Utes."

Manning on Vukic:
"Natalie has two qualities that are uncommon in soccer. First, she has great instincts in the attacking third of the field. She finds the weak spots of the defense and makes plays in the tight spaces in front of the opponent's goal. Secondly, she is a pure finisher. Even though there is often chaos going on, she is composed in front of the goal. Her shots are on frame and she scores often. Natalie comes from a soccer family and is passionate about the game. She is also a great teammate."
