PROVO, Utah - The Utah soccer team lost a pair of spring exhibition games last weekend, falling to BYU, 3-0, and Utah State, 2-0, on the Cougars' campus. Despite the losses, head coach Rich Manning was encouraged about his team's progress and the opportunity to improve as the spring exhibition schedule progresses.

"Spring games are an important part of our development as a team," said Manning. "We did some good things out there in both games. We also got some important reminders and lessons. There were some big positives. We have been working hard on the mental and physical parts of our game. The fact that we finished both games strongly was a great sign. Our conditioning and teamwork are getting better. We displayed confidence on the ball and created good chances in both games."

Manning also held praise for several individuals who performed well on the day.

"I thought [sophomore defender] Lauren Dudley was a rock in the back all day long," said Manning. "She has become a better athlete and a smarter player. [Junior defender] Nicole Cardon showed the strides she is making in her game. [Sophomore defender] Lauren Porter was steady in a new position for her, playing defensive midfield. And forwards Erin Dalley [sophomore] and Monica Okapal [freshman] put in a good day's work in midfield as well. We are looking forward to getting back on the field this Saturday in Las Vegas. We'll be watching to see if we can apply these lessons and get a better result."
