SALT LAKE CITY - The University of Utah women's soccer team has signed Wake Forest transfer goalkeeper Lindsey Luke, head coach Rich Manning announced this week.
"Lindsey is a talented goal keeper with all of the tools to be successful at this level," said Manning. "She is athletic, has good hands and communicates well with her defense. She has tremendous experience at the youth and National Team level. At the end of last fall, with Hannah Turpen's graduation and injuries to Molly Poletto and Cassity Cutrer, we were in dire need at the goalkeeper position. Lindsey will give us immediate help and will challenge for a top spot in the net. We really look forward to having her join our team this summer."
Luke will come to Utah with four years of eligibility remaining after sitting out the 2011 season as a freshman at Wake Forest. A native of Newport Beach, Calif., Luke had a standout high school career at Corona del Mar HS as well as a very successful club soccer career. In her senior season alone, Luke was named First-Team All-Pacific Coast League as she led Corona del Mar HS to the league championship title. She was also named First-Team All-CIF Division One and First-Team All-County, was selected to the Daily Pilot Dream Team and was voted the Daily Pilot Dream Team Player of the Year. Additionally, Luke was chosen as a Newport Beach Chamber of Commerce Top 15-Athlete, ESPN Rise Player of the Week (Feb 2, 2011), Corona del Mar HS Defensive MVP and Team Captain.
In 2010 Luke was named to the NSCAA Youth All-Region Team, was an ESPN RISE All-America Second-Team selection and a member of the U-18 U.S. Women's National Team player pool. In 2009, she was in camp with the U-18 National Team as well after leading Corona del Mar to the Pacific Coast League championship. Luke was named first-team All-Pacific Coast League in 2008 and 2009, and second-team all-CIF both years as well. In 2008, she finished the season with an incredible 0.125 goals-against average.
