Celebrate the 20th year of Utah Soccer with a 2014 scarf!
May 27, 2014
SALT LAKE CITY, Utah - Utah soccer unveiled its schedule for the 2014 season. The Utes will play 10 home matches, five of which will be against non-conference opponents, and six contests against teams that qualified for the NCAA Tournament.
"We are excited to get in front the Ute fans again," head coach Rich Manning stated. "We have one of the best home atmospheres in the country and our fantastic record the last three years in Pac-12 play (12-3-2) shows it. With in-state games against BYU and Utah Valley, there will be some exciting moments to watch. We also have a packed conference home slate so there will be some great soccer being played at Ute Field."
Utah opens the 2014 season with a road trip to play Oral Roberts and Oklahoma. ORU placed second in their league last season while OU played the Utes to a 1-1 draw in Salt Lake City.
The first game at Ute Field will be on Aug. 29 when Boise State comes to town. The Broncos serve as the opener to a four-game home stand with the next three weeks featuring contests against Cal State Northridge, BYU and UNLV.
The Utes head back out on the road for games at UC Davis and Utah State before completing the non-conference schedule with a home match against Utah Valley on Sept. 21. The Utes tied UCD at home last season, 2-2, and beat USU, 3-0.
"Heading into our fourth year of Pac-12 play, we have a better understanding now about how to prepare our team for the tests we face,' Manning stated. "The Pac-12 will be even more balanced than last year and we expect a challenge in every game we play. Our conference schedule has a tough, five-game road trip in it, including a visit to the defending national champions, UCLA. It will be important to have the right mindset on the road and then come back and play well at home."
Utah returns home for four Pac-12 matches in a row against Washington, Washington State, Arizona and Arizona State. The Utes will honor their seniors in the home finale against the Sun Devils on Nov. 2 before closing the regular season at Colorado.
"Our team is experienced and ready to have an excellent season," Manning added. "We hope soccer fans will join us for the ride!"
The NCAA Tournament begins the weekend of Nov. 14-16, as the Utes hope to reach the postseason for the second year in a row and seventh time overall.
