This Week's Action
The University of Utah soccer team (1-0-1) tries to keep its unbeaten record intact as it continues its road swing with a trip to Cal State Fullerton (1-1-0) this Friday. The contest is slated to kick-off at 8 p.m. MT.

Baylee Bags Brace to Beat WKU in Opener
Utah soccer opened the season in style thanks to a pair of goals from Baylee Nielsen in a 2-0 win at Sun Belt favorite Western Kentucky. The sophomore matched her goal output from last season by bagging a brace against the Hilltoppers in the 2013 debut for both squads.

She nudged Utah in front by capitalizing off a corner taken by Avery Ford in the 22nd minute. Nielsen then collected a pass from Jill Robison and chipped the keeper from 20 yards, just over a minute into the second half to double Utah's lead.

Luke Locked In
Utah goalkeeper Lindsey Luke earned Pac-12 All-Freshman honors last season and notched four shutouts during her debut campaign. So far this year, she has teamed with the defense to record shutouts in the first two contests.

The Utes have now kept their opponents off the board for 200 minutes of game play and started a season with consecutive clean sheets for the first time since 2005.

Experienced Group of Utes
Utah returns every single player that scored a goal or recorded an assist in 2012. That experience should benefit the Utes throughout the season. Utah had 10 players score goals last year and 19 different Utes started in the second Pac-12 season for the club.

Ford Focused
Utah defender Avery Ford was selected by College Sports Madness to its Pac-12 Preseason All-Conference Team. An Honorable Mention All-Pac-12 Conference selection last year, she started all 19 games as part of a defense that ranked third in the Pac-12 in goals allowed per game (1.11).

Ford finished third on the squad with six points, assisting on back-to-back game-winning goals against Washington State and Washington. Ford also excelled in the classroom as she was named Honorable Mention Academic All Pac-12 and was one of 19 Utes named to the Athletics Academic Honor Roll both semesters.

Utah's New Class
Though small in number, the 2013 freshmen class brings size on defense and adds depth all over the field. Standing at 5-foot-10, Hannah Hyde brings more height and athleticism to the Ute defense, while Madeline Webster's leadership and ability to start the attack from the defensive third will bring another dynamic element to the back line.

Adding size and depth to the goalkeeper position is Tara Shipp, who also stands at 5-foot-10. Two other players will give depth to the midfield and the front and back lines with their versatility. Taylor Slattery is an attacking player who can perform up front or in the middle, while Cabria Turang is a defensive-minded player who can also transition in and out of the midfield and could give the Utes another threat on the wings. Utah also added Charlotte transfer Darby Broeker.

Scouting this Weekend's Opposition
Cal State Fullerton Titans
The defending Big West Conference champion Titans were picked to defend their league crown in 2013.In addition to the top spot, junior midfielder Chelsey Patterson was named as one of 12 players to the preseason All-Conference Team.

All-Big West Honorable Mention forward Christina Burkenroad and senior midfielder Erica Mazeau lead the statistical returnees after both completed stellar 2012 campaigns. Burkenroad finished third on the team in goals (5) and points (12) while Mazeau was among the league leaders in assists (7).

In addition, all-conference honorable mention honorees forward Rebecca Wilson (1 goal, 2 assists, 51 shots) and goalkeeper Lindsey Maricic (0.98 GAA, 54 saves, 5 shutouts) also return to help augment a roster that features 10 true freshmen for the upcoming campaign.

Series History
Utah is 1-1-2 all-time against the Titans and unbeaten in the last three contests. The last two meetings in California have resulted in a 3-1 win (8/23/09) and a 0-0 draw (8/19/11).

The Utes are 12-4-3 all-time against teams from the Big West Conference. They are unbeaten in their last eight games against Big West foes and have not lost on the road in their last four outings (3-0-1).

Six Utah Games to be Televised Live on Pac-12 Networks
