News and Notes
This Weekend's Action
Utah soccer (6-1-5, 2-0-1) hits the road for the first time in Pac-12 play this weekend. The Utes visit Washington on Friday night for a match at a 8 p.m. They then travel to Pullman for a televised contest against WSU at noon on Sunday.

Unbeaten Utes Earn Pair of Pac-12 Wins
Katie Rigby's first goal as a Ute gave her side a 1-0 victory over Oregon on Friday and freshman Taylor Slattery scored the early winner against OSU on Sunday afternoon to give Utah a clean sweep

Rigby’s goal was created after a foul on the Ducks in the 70th minute and a yellow card to Bri Pugh, Katie Taylor's free kick from the left side found a cutting Rigby who headed the ball into the net. Utah out-shot the Ducks 12-7, but only managed to create one corner-kick opportunity in the contest.

Against the Beavers, Slattery scored her second goal of the season in the 14th minute off a pass from Taylor. The junior now has a team-high 11 points this season. Slattery’s goal came against the run of play and Utah dominated the second half thanks to a strong counter attack to preserve the victory.

Utah now has a nine-match unbeaten streak at Ute Field which started last season with a 3-1 victory over Oregon. Since then, Utah is 6-0-3 while out-scoring its opponents 21-6 and posting five shutouts. Since joining the Pac-12, Utah is 19-4-3 at home.

Utes Listed at No. 5 in Pacific Region
In Monday's NSCAA regional rankings, the Utes jumped three spots to No. 5 in the Pacific Region, its highest mark of the season. Utah ranks 44th in the latest RPI and is one of seven Pac-12 schools to be ranked in the top 50. The last time Utah was ranked in the final NSCAA Poll was in 2006 when the Utes finished 23rd in the country.

Utes Off to Best Start Since 2002
With only one loss in their first 12 contests, Utah matches the mark set by the 2002 team that started 9-1-2 and ended 13-4-3. That squad qualified for the NCAA Tournament.

Luke Named Pac-12 Player of the Week
Utah goalkeeper Lindsey Luke was named Defensive Player of the Week for Pac-12 Women’s Soccer for the week of Sept. 30-Oct. 6.

Luke earned Defensive Player of the Week honors after recording consecutive shutouts in two 1-0 wins against Oregon and Oregon State over the weekend. Luke now has seven shutouts on the season, which is one shy of the all-time Ute mark of eight set in 2003.

The sophomore from Corona Del Mar, Calif., has allowed only one goal in 800 minutes of action this season and leads the nation in goals-against average (.113) and save percentage (.970). The Utes have only lost one game on the year and are unbeaten in conference play thanks in large part to their defense.

This is the second-career weekly honor for Luke and the fourth all-time for Utah.

10 Different Utes Find the Net
Utah has had nine different players score goals this season: Katie Taylor leads the way with four, Baylee Nielsen and Allie Wisner are tied with three goals apiece, Ashton Hall, Avery Ford and Taylor Slattery have each bagged a pair and Ali ForsbergJenny Hutton, Katie Rigby and Kaycee Buckley have all tallied once. Slattery, a freshman, has two game-winners for the Utes while Taylor, Nielsen, Wisner and Rigby have all tallied deciders.

Washington Huskies (5-5-1, 1-0-2)
The Huskies are undefeated in Pac-12 play following a 1-0 win at USC and a 0-0 tie at UCLA. The Dawgs joined defending NCAA Champion North Carolina as the only teams to avoid a loss against the Bruins this season. Allie Beahan’s second goal of the season was the difference vs. the Trojans.

Becca Schoales leads Washington in both goals with three and points with six. Jaclyn Softli, Kate Bennett and Beahan are the other players with multiple goals this season. Isabel Farrell and Lindsay Elston are tied for the team lead with four assists. Megan Kufeld has played nearly every minute of the season in goal, amassing five shutouts and a 0.80 goals allowed average for the year.

The All-Time Series
The Utes are 4-2 all-time against Washington but UW has won the last two match-ups in Seattle, including a 3-0 win in 2011. Utah has not beaten Washington on the road since 1998. Last season in SLC, Megan Trabert scored the eventual game-winner and Harley Spier added an insurance goal as Utah topped UW, 2-0.

Washington State Cougars (8-1-3, 1-1-1)
Washington State split their contests last weekend falling 2-0 at UCLA before topping USC by the identical score on Sunday. Junior Mesa Owsley recorded a goal and as assist for the first three-point game of her career against USC. In the loss to UCLA, the Cougars allowed their first second-half goals of the year.

Washington State senior forward Micaela Castain is third all-time at Washington State with 32 goals and fourth in Cougar history with 71 points. Her 14 game-winning goals are second on Washington State’s career list. Redshirt junior Gurveen Clair is the current school record holder in goals against average at 0.72 and ranks third in Cougar history with 18 shutouts and 27 wins.

All-Time Series
Utah is 5-3-1 all-time against Washington State and 2-2-1 in Pullman. The Cougars earned a 2-0 victory two years ago on their home field and the Utes have not won at this site since 2002, Rich Manning’s first road win as head coach. Last season in SLC, Harley Spier netter the equalizer with less than two minutes remaining in regulation and Katie Taylor scored the game-winner in a 2-1 overtime victory.

Preseason Prognostication
UCLA was selected as the preseason favorite to win the 2013 regular season Pac-12 title. The 2012 Conference runner-ups collected 117 points and 7-of-11 possible first-place votes. Four-time defending Conference champion Stanford was a close second, tallying 115 points.

Behind them were California (99), Washington (77), Arizona State (74), Oregon State (70), Washington State (70), USC (65), Utah (37), Colorado (27), Oregon (21) and Arizona (15).
