Women's Softball Splits Two at ASU Tournament

CAE CREEK, Ariz. -- After winning its first two games of the season on Friday, the Utah softball team split two contests on Saturday at Arizona State's Coca-Cola Classic. Utah, now 3-1, defeated Detroit Mercy, 11-0, in six innings. Junior college transfer Jamie Wilkes got the win in her first start as a Ute, surrendering seven hits. The Utes pounded out 11 hits and posted five runs in the top of the sixth. The Utes fell to Alabama, 6-4, in eight innings in the second game. The Crimson Tide outhit the Utes 9-8 and jumped out to a 4-0 lead after two innings. Utah rallied with two runs in the fifth and one each in the sixth and seventh to tie the game. Farnworth evened her record at 1-1 on the season with the loss in relief.

Utah closes out the tournament against Cal State Fullerton on Sunday at 12:00 p.m.
