Softball Wins Two at UNLV Tournament

LAS VEGAS, Nev. -- Eighteenth-ranked Utah went 2-3 at the UNLV Softball Classic this weekend at Sunset Park. Utah concluded the tournament with a 3-2 win over Loyola Marymount on Sunday. The Utes scored three runs off of five hits and committed one error. Loyola Marymount had two runs off of four hits. Sunny Smith delivered with a double and Lisa Hashimoto ripped a triple to lead Utah at the plate. Kristin Arbogast evened her record at 2-2 with the win, surrendering one earned run off of three hits in four innings. Sarah Farnworth gave up just one hit in three innings of relief.

The Utes opened the tournament on Friday with an 8-3 loss to Pacific and an 8-0 loss to No. 3 Washington in six innings. Farnworth took the loss against Pacific. In the nightcap, Utah was held hitless by the Huskies' Jamie Graves, while committing five errors. Arbogast took the loss. Utah suffered an 8-2 loss to Oregon in Saturday's opener, then bounced back in the second game with a resounding 6-1 defeat of No. 8 California. Farnworth (2-2) got the decision for Utah in both games.

Up next, the Utes open Western Athletic Conference play at Fresno State on Friday and San Jose State on Sunday.
