SALT LAKE CITY - Freshman Anissa Urtez homered and tripled for four RBI and the University of Utah softball team split is home-opening doubleheader Monday at Utah Softball Stadium, beginning with a 6-2 win over Ole Miss and an 8-5 loss to Utah State.
Utah (7-5) outhit its opponents .316-.276 in the day's action to go with a .350-.317 advantage in on-base percentage.
Urtez had three hits in six at-bats with four runs driven in off her third home run of the season.
Freshman second baseman Hannah Flippen had four hits in seven at-bats and drove in her 12th RBI of the year.
Game 1: Utah def. Ole Miss, 6-2
Freshman Kayce Nieto threw her second complete game of the season, allowing only two earned runs on six hits in 7.0 innings to go with four punch outs. With the win, she improved to 4-4 this season.
Utah opened the scoring in the third inning with a two-run double by Dickman. Ole Miss tied the game with a pair in the top of the fourth before a three-run frame for the Utes. Stewart's second RBI of the game capped the scoring in the bottom of the sixth.
Game 2: Utah State def. Utah, 8-5
Urtez tripled to right center and eventually scored to start the second inning for the Utes before cranking a three-run homer to right-center field in the third to tie the game up at four runs apiece.
Utah hosts a doubleheader with Utah Valley tomorrow starting at 3 p.m. MT.
