LAS VEGAS - UNLV (8-7, 3-3 WAC) took the field for a conference doubleheader against #25 Utah (9-6, 4-2 WAC) today at Rebel Diamond. The Rebels wound up on the losing end of two hard-fought games, losing 2-4 in game one and 1-2 in the nightcap.

In game one, the Rebels gave up a run in each of the second and third innings to fall behind early. UNLV's Kelly DeArman started the game on the mound, but was relieved in the second inning by Brandi Isgar. The Rebels drew even in the sixth inning when an error by Utah's centerfielder scored Julie Crandall and Isgar. However, the score would not stay locked for long, as a two-run home run in the top for the seventh by the Utes Sunny Smith gave Utah a 4-2 advantage. Crandall finished the game hitting 3-for-4 with one run.

The second game was another defensive battle. After taking a 1-0 lead in the second off Devon Ramos' RBI-single, the Rebels gave up two runs in the third. With two outs, Isgar gave up three consecutive base hits to load the bases before walking Jenny Monson for the first run. Kati Brewster hit a single in the next at bat for the go-ahead run before the Rebels could escape the inning. That proved to be the difference as neither team crossed the plate again. UNLV had its chances in the sixth, but left three runners stranded.

UNLV will take on the defending WAC Champion Colorado State Rams Sunday. The doubleheader will begin at 11:00am.
