SALT LAKE CITY - Freshman right-hander Sammy Cordova threw 3.2 shutout innings, while eight different Utes had hits to lead the University of Utah softball team to a 6-4 win over Oregon State in the middle game of its weekend series on Saturday at Utah Softball Stadium.

Utah (14-15, 3-7 Pac-12) held a 9-6 edge in hits over Oregon State, while not committing an error for the second straight game.

Freshman shortstop Anissa Urtez went 2-for-3 with an RBI, while senior center fielder Chalese Hadley, junior left fielder Kate Dickman, freshman first baseman Bridget Castro, sophomore catcher Shelby Pacheco, sophomore third baseman Kristen Stewart, senior right fielder Trina Gomez and senior designated player Taylor Jordan each had one hit apiece.

Utah's top two RBI producers continued against Oregon State as Urtez turned in her 11th multi-hit effort of the season and now leads the team with 25 runs driven in.

Castro tagged her fifth round-tripper of the season for two runs and has driven in 20 runs in 2014, while Dickman kept pace with Castro and drove in one run for her 20th RBI of the season.

On the mound, sophomore Kayce Nieto went 3.1 innings in her 22nd appearance of the year, allowing four earned runs on six hits with two strikeouts.

Cordova came on for 3.2 innings of relief and did not allow a hit or earned run after retiring all 11 hitters to pick up her sixth win of the season. She improved to 6-2 this season.

The Beavers scored three runs in the top of the first frame, but the Utes got two runs back as Hadley launched her first triple of the season to center field and Dickman connected for an RBI base hit up the middle for Utah's first score of the contest. Urtez hit another RBI base hit through the middle of the OSU defense to score Dickman for the Utes' second score of the contest.

OSU came back with another run in the top of the second inning before Stewart smacked a single up the middle and senior right-fielder Trina Gomez dropped down a bunt single back to the pitcher, who did not even attempt to throw Gomez out at first base. Sophomore designated player Taylor Jordan then turned in an infield single to load the bases. Hadley drove a sacrifice fly to left field to allow Stewart to cross home plate. Dickman then stole second base and Gomez then slid into home plate for the equalizer.

Castro broke the tie in the bottom of the fifth by blasting her team-high fifth home run over the left-center field wall and Pacheco followed by ripping a double to left-center field.

Oregon State (12-20, 2-7 Pac-12) received a 2-for-3 effort at the plate by catcher Kylie Padilla.

The Utes finish their series against the Beavers on Sunday at 12 p.m. MT with Pac-12 Networks televising the game live with live audio and stats at utahutes.com.
