SALT LAKE CITY - An exciting season awaits the University of Utah softball team in 2013 as the program will move into its new home, Ute Softball Stadium, and take on a schedule that includes 32 games against 16 opponents who qualified for the 2012 NCAA Tournament.
Utah will officially open Ute Softball Stadium with a single game against Utah Valley on Mar. 26 at 6 p.m.
The Utes begin their 2013 season in St. George, Utah, at the Utah Valley/BYU Tournament Feb. 8-10, against South Dakota. Utah then faces Loyola Marymount, Seattle, Arkansas and Nevada.
Utah makes its annual trek down to Las Vegas for the Easton Desert Classic on Feb. 15-17. The Utes open with a doubleheader against Idaho State and Seattle on Feb. 15, then play Seattle on Feb. 16 before facing Long Beach State and host UNLV on Feb. 17.
The Cathedral City Classic will be held Feb. 22-24 in Palm Springs, Calif. The Utes start with Long Island and former Mountain West Conference foe Colorado State on Feb. 22, then face Nevada on Feb. 23 before playing Ohio State and Cal Poly on Feb. 24.
The month of March begins with a single road game at Utah Valley on Mar. 5 before heading to the Mayfair Classic in Long Beach and Fullerton, Calif., for the Mayfair Classic.
The early-season tournament schedule concludes with five games at the University of Hawaii Tournament, Mar. 13-16. Utah will take on Syracuse and host Hawaii on the opening day, Baylor on Mar. 14, then wrap up the event with a doubleheader determined by tournament play on Mar. 16.
A single game in Logan against Utah State on Mar. 20 at 4 p.m., will serve as Utah's tune-up to Pac-12 play.
All 24 games of Utah's Pac-12 slate will be against opponents who were ranked in the top 25 of the final USA Today/NFCA Coaches Poll last season. The Utes begin league play Mar. 22-24 against 2012 Women's College World Series semifinalist California in Berkeley, Calif.
After the California series, the Utes host Arizona (Mar. 28-30), travel to Oregon (Apr. 2-3) for a mid-week series and return to Salt Lake City for three games against UCLA (Apr. 6-7).
The Utes' Pac-12 schedule the rest of the way plays out as follows: at Oregon State (Apr. 12-14), at home against 2012 WCWS qualifier Arizona State (Apr. 19-21), at Stanford (Apr. 26-28) and hosting Washington (May 3-5).
A Deseret First Duel single game at BYU will conclude Utah's regular-season schedule on May 11 at 1:30 p.m.
