Kendall Bergman will also have opportunities to swing a bat this spring, primarily as a pinch hitter and senior Sandi Fawson will substitute late in games and as a pinch runner. Freshman Eryn McCarver is a pure and versatile athlete who has experience as a middle infielder, catcher and outfielder and is planning to redshirt this season.

Bergman tagged her first career home run against North Dakota last season and made first career start against Howard (3/10/12). The Wheat Ridge, Colo., native also started in right field in the second game of the series at No. 15 UCLA.

Fawson has played in 159 games over her career with 53 starts and also has swiped 23 bases on 29 attempts. The Herriman, Utah native was second on last year's team with 11 steals on 13 attempts.

"Each of our utility players have such specific roles for us right now," Hogue said. "Bergman has a chance to be our first off the bench as a pinch hitter. She's a great hitter and had some success in the pinch-hitting role last year. I feel confident that she'll be someone we'll use early for a pinch-hit RBI. Sandi is one of our faster players and does a nice job in the outfield and with pinch running."

An exciting season awaits in 2013 as Utah will move into its new home, Ute Softball Stadium, and take on a schedule that includes 32 games against 16 opponents who qualified for the 2012 NCAA Tournament.

All 24 games of Utah's Pac-12 slate will be against opponents who were ranked in the top 25 of the final USA Today/NFCA Coaches Poll last season. The Utes begin league play Mar. 22-24 against 2012 Women's College World Series semifinalist California in Berkeley, Calif.

Utah will officially open Ute Softball Stadium with a single game against Utah Valley on Mar. 26 at 6 p.m.

"It's going to be one of the best facilities in the Pac-12," Hogue said. "It's already attracting recruits and it should. This program has waited and waited for this and we're so thankful to be given such a nice place to call home."
