The Tuesday, Apr. 8 doubleheader at Weber State will begin at 2 p.m. MT in Ogden, Utah with the second game set to begin 30 minutes after the conclusion of the first game, approximately 4:30 p.m. MT.
Game one of the series at No. 6 Arizona State will be Thursday, Apr. 10 at 7 p.m. PT before the middle game on Friday, Apr. 11 at 5 p.m. PT and the finale on Saturday, Apr. 12 will begin at 12 p.m. PT.
The Utes are 14-16 overall with a 3-8 mark in Pac-12 play after taking two of three from Oregon State last weekend in Salt Lake City for their first league series win of the year.
Oregon State Series Recap: The Utes picked up their first conference series victory of the season last weekend by taking the first two from Oregon State last weekend at Utah Softball Stadium. Utah won the first game of the series on Friday, Apr. 4 by an 8-2 score after totaling 13 hits, while not committing an error in the field. Oregon State came up with eight hits and was charged two errors. During their 6-4 victory on Saturday, Apr. 5, the Utes held a 9-6 edge in hits over Oregon State, while not committing an error for the second straight game.
Taking Two: Utah's defense leads the Pac-12 this season after converting 24 double plays through 30 games. Freshman first baseman Bridget Castro (Bellflower, Calif.) leads the Pac-12 after being on the closing end of 17 double plays in 2014. Castro's classmates, shortstop Anissa Urtez (Long Beach, Calif.) and second baseman Hannah Flippen (Bonita, Calif.) are tied for second.
Bashing Bridget: Castro hit for a team-high .625 average with five hits, three for extra bases, for six RBI last weekend against Oregon State. Castro had five hits in eight at-bats against the Beavers to drive in six runs with a 1.500 slugging percentage and a .700 on-base percentage. She also had 32 putouts without an error for a 1.000 fielding percentage at her first-base position. Castro has five multi-RBI outings in 2014 and 10 games with two or more hits during her debut campaign with the Utes. Castro is tied for sixth in the Pac-12 with three sacrifice flies this season and she ranks second on the squad with 23 RBI.
Cordova Pitches In: Freshman right-hander Sammy Cordova (Huntington Beach, Calif.) threw 14.1 innings with a 2.93 ERA against Oregon State. Cordova went 2-1, while allowing six earned runs on 16 hits with five strikeouts and two walks and limiting opposing hitters to a .276 batting average. Cordova allowed two earned runs to the Beavers during the series opener on Friday, Apr. 4, giving up eight hits to go with four strikeouts. During the middle game of the series on Apr. 5, Cordova came on for 3.2 innings of relief and did not allow a hit or earned run after retiring all 11 hitters to pick up her sixth win of the season.
Kate at the Plate: Junior left fielder Kate Dickman (Mission Viejo, Calif.) is seventh in the Pac-12 with a .419 batting average through 30 games. She is tied for fifth in the league with 10 doubles and tied for ninth in the league with a team-high total of 44 hits. The 2013 Pac-12 All-Conference Second Team selection is tied for the team lead with 14 extra-base hits (10 doubles, two triples and two home runs), leads the squad with 26 runs scored and is third with 20 RBI.
