Game 1 Review: Utah's junior shortstop Kelsi Hoopiiaina (Riverton, Utah) had two hits in three at-bats with a run scored, but Utah lost yesterday's series opener to No. 23 Oregon State by a 10-2 margin.

`Hoop' Goes for Extras: Hoopiiaina drove Utah's lone extra-base hit of the contest, a double in the bottom of the third, which was her team-leading 10th double of the season. Hoopiiaina now leads the team with 18 extra-base hits in 2012.

Base Bandits: Hoopiiana also stole a base Friday against the Beavers to move to 16-for-16 on steal attempts this season, a mark that ranks fifth in the Pac-12.

Junior shortstop Sandi Bowles (Herriman, Utah) also came up with a steal against Oregon State yesterday and is now second on the team with 11 stolen bases this season.

Quick-Start Utes: The Utes have scored in the first inning in each of their last three games. Utah has crossed the plate in the first frame 17 times this season and sports an 11-6 record in those contests.

Utah has been the first to score in 24 games in 2012 and owns an 18-6 mark in those games.

Heavy Hitting Elliott: Junior Katelyn Elliott (Spanish Fork, Utah) is hitting .500 over Utah's last three games with a .900 slugging percentage and .545 on-base percentage. She has five hits in 10 at-bats, three of which have gone for extra bases, for five RBI.

Elliott hit a single yesterday against the Beavers and drove in a pair of runs and is now third on the team with 22 RBI this year. For her career, she has driven in 28 runs and is now on the team's longest current hit streak as she has recorded hits in each of her last five games.

In Wednesday's doubleheader at Weber State, Elliott went 4-for-6 with three RBI, two runs scored and a 1.333 slugging percentage against the Wildcats after hitting three extra-base hits.

Nielson Punchouts: Senior Generra Nielson (Blanding, Utah) has struck out a Pac-12 high 260 hitters this year and 458 over her Ute career. Despite only in her second season at Utah, Nielson ranks fifth in school history in strikeouts and needs just 12 more to pass Meghan Dyer (2006-07) and move into fourth.
