The University of Utah softball team begins its three-game home Pac-12 Conference series against California tonight at 7 p.m. MT.
The Utes are 23-24 overall. In their last homestand, they picked up a doubleheader split with Southern Utah and a twin bill sweep over Utah Valley. Utah is 5-15 against Pac-12 foes this season after being swept in three games at Arizona last weekend.
California is 23-23 overall and 4-12 in Pac-12 play. The Golden Bears have dropped six of their last seven after being swept at No. 2 UCLA last weekend in Berkeley.

Utes Get Two: Utah's defense leads the nation and the Pac-12 this season after converting 40 double plays through 47 games, which doubles the 20 turned by second-place Stanford. The Utes set a new season high with three double plays turned in the first game of the Apr. 8 twin bill at Weber State. Freshman first baseman Bridget Castro (Bellflower, Calif.) leads the Pac-12 after being a part of 31 double plays. Castro is followed closely by her classmates, Flippen and shortstop Anissa Urtez (Long Beach, Calif.). Flippen is second with 25 turned, while Urtez is third with 21.
Trifecta: Utah is second in the NCAA and leads the Pac-12 with 19 triples this season. Flippen is second in the conference with five triples this season, followed by Urtez in a third-place tie with three.
Urgent Urtez: Urtez drove in a team-high 10 runs and tied for team-high honors with eight hits with a .577 slugging percentage in seven games for Utah last week. Urtez doubled and hit a home run totaling four RBI in the three-game series at No. 9 Arizona over the weekend.
Kate Can Rank: Dickman paces Utah with a .399 batting average through 47 games. Dickman is second in the league with 67 hits, third with 48 runs scored, fourth with 14 doubles and tied for 10th with 94 total bases and two triples. She is currently on a team-high 14-game hit streak. In league games only, Dickman is tied for eighth with 17 runs scored against conference foes.
Flippen Out: Flippen is second in the Pac-12 with five triples this season, tied for fourth with 60 hits and tied for seventh with 45 runs scored.
Doubling Up: Sophomore catcher Shelby Pacheco (Casa Granda, Ariz.) is tied for second in the Pac-12 with six doubles in league games this season.
