California Series Recap: Utah earned its first-ever Pac-12 series sweep with three straight wins over California May 1-3 in Salt Lake City.

Taking Two: Utah's defense leads the nation and the Pac-12 this season after converting 44 double plays through 50 games, which doubles the 22 turned by second-place Stanford. The Ute defense set a new school record with its 44th double play of the season after a 6-4-3 play in the top of the first inning of the Cal game on May 3. Forty-four double plays turned is the fourth-most in a single season in NCAA history:

 1. UC Santa Barbara: 82 in 1985
2. Penn State: 61 in 1985
3. Nebraska: 69 in 2013
4. Utah: 44 in 2014
5. Utah: 43 in 2013
Utah: 43 in 1989

Trifecta: Utah is second in the NCAA with 0.38 triples per game and is tied for the lead in the Pac-12 with 19 triples this season. Flippen is second in the conference with five triples this season, followed by Urtez in a third-place tie with three.

Cordova Named Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week: Freshman right-hander Sammy Cordova (Huntington Beach, Calif.) was named the Pitcher of the Week in the Pac-12 on May 5 after throwing two complete games against California. In her two complete-game victories over Cal, Cordova allowed only two earned runs on 12 hits in 13.0 innings during her two appearances. She struck out a total of eight and walked three Golden Bears. Cordova allowed only six hits in her first career complete-game shutout as Utah earned an 8-0 win over Cal in six innings during the May 1 8-0 run-rule, six-inning victory. She tied her season high by striking out five and walked only one in 6.0 innings of work. During the May 3 series finale, a 5-2 Utah win, Cordova allowed two earned runs on six hits to go with three strikeouts and a pair of walks against the Golden Bears. Cordova improved her record to 10-8 on the season and she now has eight complete-game efforts during her freshman campaign.

The Big Cheese: Senior center fielder Chalese Hadley (South Jordan, Utah), known to her teammates as "Cheese," compiled a 1.143 slugging percentage and hit .571 for five RBI in the Cal series She had four hits in seven at-bats and scored three times with a pair of walks. Hadley cracked a three-run homer in the fifth inning of Utah's May 2 6-5 win over California to highlight a 1-for-2 night at the plate with a season-high three RBI. It was her first round-tripper of the year and she now has 15 career home runs. She recorded two hits and an RBI in the May 3 series finale as she singled for an RBI to left center in the third and dropped down a bunt single and stole second in the sixth.

In the May 1 series opener, Hadley looped an RBI double through the left-center field gap to put the run rule into effect in the bottom of the sixth inning of the 8-0 win.

Hadley has posted seven games with two or more hits and registered a pair of multi-RBI outings this season. She has 18 RBI and has driven in 77 runs this season.
