SALT LAKE CITY - It's never too early to think about the next season so utahutes.com will be updating fans on each class of the University of Utah softball program this summer heading into the 2014 campaign, the Utes' third in the premier softball conference in the country, the Pac-12.

A trio of seniors - third baseman Taylor Austin, center fielder Chalese Fankhauser and right fielder Trina Gomez - return for their final season in the Utah program and look to lead the Utes into the upper echelon on the Pac-12.

Austin Notes: Has a great mind for the game ... trustworthy with the ball in her hands on defense ... triple-threat at the plate ... a quiet, but extremely competitive player.

2013: Pac-12 All-Academic Second Team ... had a Pac-12 season-high nine assists at Utah Valley (3/5) ... started 28 of 32 games that she has played in at third base ... registered hits in first three games of the season ... singled and scored a run against Seattle (2/9) ... stole a base against Arkansas (2/10) ... hit a double against Idaho State (2/15) ... had a base hit and run scored at UNLV (2/17) ... went 3-for-3 and scored twice against Colorado State (3/22) ... registered base hits against Nevada (2/23), Cal State Fullerton (3/9), Bethune-Cookman (3/10), No. 5 California (3/23) and No. 17 Arizona (3/28) ... laid down sacrifice bunts against Cal Poly (2/24) and at Oregon State (4/13).

2012: Had five hits in nine at-bats for a .556 average ... scored five runs ... connected on a double versus Southern Utah (3/21) ... hit a single against Drexel (2/24) ... had a pinch-hit single against Utah State (3/28) ... crossed the plate as a pinch runner against Cal St. Northridge (2/19) and Colgate (3/12) ... had three assists from third base against North Dakota (3/4) ... appeared as a pinch runner in three other games ... appeared as a pinch runner against San Diego State (2/10), UC Santa Barbara (2/11), No. 15/19 Hawaii (4/3) and No. 23 Oregon State (4/29) ... made a pinch hit appearance at No. 15/15 UCLA (4/21) ... knocked a pinch hit single and scored a run during first game of Weber State doubleheader (4/25) ... stole second base of career against Oregon State (4/28) ... crossed the plate during 6-0 win over No. 15/17 Stanford (5/10). 2011: Made 23 appearances with five starts, mainly at second base ... went 2-for-5 with four RBI and two run scored against Hampton (3/19) ... had a three-game hit streak with a single in each game she played in from March 22 through April 6: George Mason (3/22), Utah Valley (4/5) and Weber State (4/6) ... drove in two runs versus Weber State (4/6) ... scored a run and stole first career base at Colorado State (5/6) ... had a hit at CSU (5/7) ... Spring 2011 Academic All-MWC selection ... 2010-11 MWC Scholar Athlete.

Fankhauser Notes: Owns 136 career starts in first three seasons as a Ute, mainly in center field ... tied for Pac-12 lead in triples in 2013 ... complete five-tool player ... told her family that she wanted to be on the Utah Softball team when she was four years old ... gutty player with a `never say die' attitude ... always looking to take the next base ... plays the game hard.

2013: Tied for Pac-12 lead with six triples in all games and three during league games ... tied for fourth in Pac-12 in sacrifice flies and ninth with 27 hits in the Pac-12's conference-only stats ... started all 55 games in center field ... record 15 multi-hit games ... stole a team-high seven bases lined a double, scored twice and stole base against South Dakota (2/8) ... had an RBI single against Loyola Marymount (2/8) ... hit a double and triple during 2-for-3 effort with an RBI against Seattle (2/9) ... was 2-for-2 with a solo homer and a sacrifice bunt against Arkansas (2/10) ... posted a triple and double then scored three runs, while walking twice, against Idaho State (2/15) ... singled and scored a run against Long Beach State (2/17) ... also singled against UNLV (2/17) ... 2012: Started 41 games and appeared in 54 of 56 games ... made first three career starts behind the plate at No. 15 UCLA (4/20-22) ... has driven in 13 runs ... was 2-for-3 with four RBI, two runs and a homer during second game of twin bill against Southern Utah (3/21) ... hit an RBI single in the first game of the day against the Thunderbirds (3/21) ... drew a walk against Western Michigan (2/10) ... stole a base against Portland State (2/12) ... first home run of the season was a three-run shot against Drexel (2/24) ... tagged a two-run home run against Utah State (3/28) ... cracked a solo homer in second game of series at No. 13/13 Arizona (4/10) ... 3-for-5 on stolen base attempts this year ... has drawn eight walks ... scored a run in the middle game of the UCLA series (4/21) ... hit a two-run triple during first game of Weber State doubleheader (4/25) ... hit a single, drew a walk and stole a base in second game of twin bill at WSU (4/25) ... crossed the plate in first game of series with No. 23 Oregon State (4/27) ... singled and stole a base in middle game of OSU series (4/28) ... had a base hit and scored during finale of series against the Beavers (4/29).

2011: All-Mountain West Conference selection ... started in 40 games and played 49 in the Ute outfield ... second on team with a .339 batting average ... also boasted a .435 on-base percentage as well as a .565 slugging percentage ... 27 RBI ... 9-of-13 on stolen base attempts ... tied for fourth in the MWC's overall statistics with eight sacrifice bunts ... tied for seventh in the league with two sacrifice flies ... tied for fifth in the conference with nine stolen bases .... one of four MWC players to maintain a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage ... was 2-for-3 with first career double against Virginia (2/24) ... hit a three-run homer and scored twice against Nevada (2/27) ... had a double and two RBI against Wisconsin (3/6) ... had a hit in all three at-bats, including a solo home run, in first game of doubleheader against Southern Utah (3/9) ... also hit a home run in second game against SUU ... had a double and three RBI during 2-for-4 effort in first game of doubleheader at George Mason (3/22) ... had another double in next versus GMU ... connected for a two-run homer against Utah Valley (4/5) ... went 2-for-4 against UVU, the first of three straight two-hit games ... was 2-for-2 with two RBI in game one of doubleheader against Weber State (4/6) then went 2-for-3 with a solo homer in the second game ... hit .750 during Utah's 2-1 road trip at New Mexico and Colorado State (5-5/7) ... had six hits, including a home run and a double, in eight official at-bats to go with five RBI and four runs scored against the Lobos and Rams ... also drew three walks and stole a base.

Gomez Notes: Exciting to watch on the bases ... feels the game really well and is very easy to coach ... will impress you with her speed and arm ... does a great job in the classroom and is a great teammate.

2013: One of eight Pac-12 players to boast a flawless 1.000 fielding percentage ... hit .308 with a .400 on-base percentage ... tied for Pac-12 single-game high with three steals during second game of doubleheader at Southern Utah (4/24), also had a hit and scored three times against the Thunderbirds ... started 18 games in the Ute outfield with 46 appearances ... had eight hits, six steals and scored 16 runs ... had first career hit and stolen base against Loyola Marymount (2/8) ... stole a base against Nevada (2/10) ... hit a single against Cal State Fullerton (2/16) ... came up with a two-run single at UNLV (2/17) for her first career RBI.

At SLCC: All-Region and All-Region 18 Tournament Team selection in 2011 ... hit .388 with a .421 slugging percentage in 44 starts in the Bruin outfield ... stole 26 bases on 28 attempts ... drew 16 walks and struck out only eight times.
