SALT LAKE CITY - It's never too early to think about the next season so utahutes.com will be updating fans on each class of the University of Utah softball program this summer heading into the 2014 campaign, the Utes' third in the premier softball conference in the country, the Pac-12.

Six Utes are entering their first season as members of the University of Utah softball program in 2014, looking to help the Utes move into the upper echelon on the Pac-12.

Bridget Castro
IF • R/R • 5-6 • HS • Bellflower, Calif. • Calvary Chapel H.S.

Prior to Utah: Team won CIF title in 2011 and league title in 2010 ... 2011 CIF Player of the Year ... 2011 league MVP and Grizzly Athlete of the Year ... Press Telegram Dream Team (First Team) in 2011 and 2012 ... L.A. Wave East Regional Player of the Year in 2011 and 2012 ... four-time All-CIF and all-league first team honoree ... ESPN All-American team ... MaxPreps All-State Team ... four-year starter at shortstop ... hit 40 career homers for 181 RBI ... had 183 career hits and scored 174 runs ... two-time team captain ... turned in a .568 average, had 46 hits (including 13 doubles, 12 homers, .591 on-base and 1.222 slugging percentage) for 51 RBI and scored 40 runs during senior year at Calvary Chapel ... hit .649 with a 1.270 slugging percentage with 11 home runs and 55 RBI during junior season... won Southern California travel team titles in 2006 with American Athletics and in 2009 with Lakewood Firecrackers ... both teams went on to take third at ASA Nationals ... was also captain of the volleyball team for three years and three-time first-team all-league selection in addition to being named team MVP in 2011 ... earned the Principal's Award ... graduated in the top 15 percent of her class with honors and a 4.0 GPA.

Orange County Register Preseason No. 1-ranked freshman ... played club ball with the SoCal Choppers ... participated in On Deck National Elite Futures camps in 2009 and 2010 ... On Deck Zoom Into June camps in 2010 and 2011 ... in travel ball during both the 2012 and 2011 season, she was a member of the 2012 18 Gold Colorado Fireworks, Canada Cup, Triple Crown Championships, New York Championships winner ... team took second at Premier ... team also won the Power Pool TV Game in 2011 ... in 2010, team was second at Colorado Fireworks, third in the 16U ASA SoCal States and the Premier 16U as well as 17th at nationals ... in 2009, team was the 14U ASA SoCal state champions and took fifth at ASA Nationals ... in 2008, was a member of the 12U ASA Colorado Regional Qualifier champions and the ninth-place team at ASA Nationals ... in 2007, squad took 17th at 12U ASA Nationals ... second place at 10U Western B Nationals in 2005 and 2006.

Hannah Flippen

Prior to Utah: High school team won the CIF title last season and was finalists in 2011 and 2013 ... career .441 hitter with 181 hits, 143 runs and 68 RBI at Bonita Vista ... hit .532 with 50 hits (including 11 doubles, four triples and three home runs) for 26 RBI and 38 runs scored during senior season ... 2013 Second-Team All-State and First-Team All-CIF San Diego County ... 2013 Mesa League Player of the Year and Team MVP ... first-team All-Mesa selection and second-team All-CIF (San Diego section) as a junior and sophomore ... earned Team's Best Defensive Player award in 2011 and 2010 ... also played volleyball and basketball ... recognized on the Principal's Honor Roll all four years ... member of Team Mizuno travel team that won the 2013 18U Independence Day championship, 2012 PGF 16U championship, 2012 16U Independence Day championship ... earned Standards of Excellence awards in Physics and Physical Education ... named school's 2013 Most Valuable Female Athlete ... also was a point guard on the basketball team and was an all-league selection in 2012 and the 2011 Bonita Optimist MVP ... was a DS on the volleyball team that won four consecutive Mesa League titles and was a 2011 CIF finalist ... was named All-Mesa League in 2012 ... mother, Mary Lou, was an All-American softball player at Utah State and was a member of national championship teams in 1980 and 1981, before being named USU's Female Athlete of the Year in 1983.

Prior to Utah: Helped Marina High School win a Sunset League title ... 2011 Daily Pilot Player of the Year after hitting .450 with 28 RBI ... first-team All-Sunset League selection in 2010 and 2011 ... Scholar-Athlete in 2010 and 2011 ... team captain ... four-time letterwinner and scholar-athlete ... an all-star player for Ryan Lemmon Foundation and Orange County vs. Riverside County in 2013 ... played for the Firecrackers-Rico Club team that won the 2013 Triple Crown National Championships in Reno, Nev.

Autumn Shipp

Prior to Utah: Deseret News Second-Team All-State selection in 2012 and honorable mention selection in 2011 ... three-time first-team all-region pick ... helped team place third in state in 2012 ... led team in steals in each of first three seasons ... stole five bases against Dixie High School in 2011 ... led Pegusus Club team in runs, steals and on-base percentage each of last two seasons ... member of fifth-place team at 2009 Little League World Series ... on team that won 2012 Adidas Futures title ... four-year honor roll student ... three-time all-state selection in soccer and two-time all-state selection in basketball ... helped Snow Canyon win a state title and three region championships in both sports ... named Snow Canyon's Female Athlete of the Year in 2012-13 ... also a member of student council, spirit clubs, science groups as well as National Honor Society and Key Club.

MVP and first-team all-league selection in 2012 ... honorable mention Press-Telegram in 2011 ... earned player of the week honors ... hit .577 with 10 home runs, 44 RBI and a .990 slugging percentage during junior year ... club team won the Premier Girls Fastpitch U16 championship ... also was an outside hitter on the volleyball team that won the CIF Division 2 title in 2010 ... member of Normaneers Club, a community service organization.
