SALT LAKE CITY - Four softball student-athletes signed National Letters of Intent during the early signing period, University of Utah head coach Amy Hogue announced.

This is Hogue's seventh recruiting class as head coach of the Utes. Joining the team as newcomers in 2014-15 will be Heather Bowen, Katie Donovan, Sam Glantz and Miranda Viramontes. The four student-athletes will enroll at Utah next fall.

"Thinking about this recruiting class gives me the chills," Hogue said. "They are a group that can come in and put this team in the top 25 for their entire career. We have two of the top pitchers in the country and two powerful hitters who will be joining a solid Utah squad. What's not to love about that?!"

Heather Bowen (UTIL / Las Vegas, Nev. / Centennial H.S. / Lil' Rebels)

Led Centennial High School to back-to-back Nevada state titles (2013 and 2012) and a runner-up finish in 2011 ... 2013 and 2012 Nevada Gatorade Player of the Year ... 2011 Northwest Division Most Valuable Player ... first-team all-state infielder each of the last three seasons ... broke school's home run record as a sophomore in 2012 ... also plays with the Las Vegas Lil' Rebels club team.

Hogue on Bowen: "Heather has the skill-set to accomplish just about anything she wants to in college. She is a powerful hitter with a great arm and can play anywhere on the field, including catcher. She is the type of kid who is the first one to the field and the last one to leave."

Katie Donovan (P / Salem, Ore. / South Salem H.S. / Washington Ladyhawks)

As a pitcher, first baseman and designated player, Donovan led South Salem High School to second-place finishes in the 2012 and 2011 Oregon State 6A Championship as well as a third-place effort in 2013 ... team has won three straight conference titles ... state Finalist for Wendy's High School Heisman Award ... First-team 6A all-state pitcher in 2012 and 2013 ... Statesman Journal All-Mid-Valley Softball Team in 2012 and 2013 ... CVC Pitcher of the Year in 2012 and 2013 ... All-CVC First Team in 2012 and 2013 and honorable mention in 2011 ... CVC All-Academic Team in 2011, 2012 and 2013 ... KOIN TV Athlete of the Week for April 28-May 4, 2013 ... The Oregonian Nominee for Softball Player of the Month in March of 2013 ... Gatorade Player of the Year Nominee in 2012 and 2013 ... South Salem Athlete of the Week ... Statesman Journal Athlete of the Week ... On Deck camp participant in 2011 ... adidas Futures Team ... 2011 Colorado Sparkler All-Star and All-American teams in 2010 ... best performances include a five-inning, 15 strike-out game on April 19, 2013, five no-hitters, two perfect games ... hit two grand slams and went 4-for-4 with 10 RBI on April 24, 2012 ... winning pitcher in a 13-inning semifinal state tournament game that went two days after being suspended due to darkness and continued the next day on May 31 and June 1, 2011 ... winning pitcher in 10-inning, 1-0 win in second round of state playoffs on May 25, 2011 ... also plays for the Washington Ladyhawks club team.

Hogue on Donovan: "Katie is a student of the game. She doesn't just want to beat you, she wants to know how and why everything works the way it does. She improves leaps and bounds each time I see her pitch. She has a lot of great movement with the power necessary to beat anybody."

Sam Glantz (C, UTIL / Northridge, Calif. / Oaks Christian H.S. / California Cruisers)

First-team all-league in 2011, 2012 and 2013 ... All-San Fernando Valley in 2012 and 2013 ... All-Ventura County in 2013 ... Oaks Christian High School Offensive MVP in 2013 ... led Oaks Christian in doubles (14), home runs (6), and RBI (32) in 102 at-bats as a junior ... National Fastpitch Coaches Association High School All-West Region First Team in 2013 ... National Christian School Athletic Association (NCSAA) West Super-Region First Team ... did not commit an error in 270 chances during 2013 high school season, which ranked fifth nationally for fielding percentage by Max Preps USA ... hitting .409 with 86 RBI, 32 doubles, 13 home runs and eight triples for a .740 slugging percentage over prep career ... participated in prestigious On Deck Camp in 2011 and 2012 ... led Cal Cruisers to fifth place in the 16U Premier National Championships in 2012 ... led Northridge Bulldogs to second place at the ASA `B' National Championships in 2008 ... father, John Glantz, played baseball at UCLA from 1989-91 and served as team captain during senior year and received Tommy John Award for Comeback Player of the Year in 1990 ... uncle, Frank Carey, started at second base for Stanford from 1986 through 1989 and went on to play professionally in the San Francisco Giants and Oakland Athletics' organizations ... also plays for the Cal Cruisers club team.

Hogue on Glantz: "Sam is a hitter. She is an intense player who hates to lose. She has tremendous power and is a leader on the field."

Miranda Viramontes (P / Chino, Calif. / Chino H.S. / Corona Angels)

Led Chino High School to last two CIF titles ... named league MVP ... first-team all-league pick ... won 21 consecutive starts to finish out last season and posted a 0.36 ERA ... allowed two runs in five postseason games ... finished with five no-hitters, six one-hitters and 15 shutouts ... four-year letterwinner ... member of the Taking Initiative Community Service club ... also plays for the Corona Angels club team.

Hogue on Viramontes: "Miranda is a power pitcher who is a proven winner. She throws a heavy drop ball that is very difficult to hit out of the infield. She is solid in the circle and knows how to win big games for her team."
