MADISON, Wisc. - The 35th-ranked University of Utah women's tennis team (2-1) downed No. 75 Wisconsin (1-3) by a score of 6-1 Friday at the Nielsen Tennis Stadium. After the Utes clinched the doubles point, No. 123 junior Callie Craig captured the match deciding point at the No. 3 singles position.

"It is a good win over a solid Big-10 Conference team on the road," said head coach Mat Iandolo. "Its good to be able to get the doubles point for the third match in a row. We look forward to heading to Chicago to face DePaul tomorrow."

In doubles action, Utah's 23rd-ranked duo of junior Paige Miles and sophomore Tereza Bekerova quickly captured the Utes its first victory of the day, topping Lauren Burich and Lauren Chypyha, 8-4, at the No. 1 position. Junior Lucia Kovarcikova and sophomore Natasha Smith then managed to top Helen Rabot and Pernilla Wohlstrom, 8-7(3), at the No. 3 spot to post the doubles point for Utah.

With the doubles point in hand for the Utes, juniors Sarah Pham and Callie Craig battled to a mark of 7-7(1) against Katie Hoch and Anastasia Tripolskay at the No. 2 slot before retiring.

Utah quickly went up 2-0 in singles play when Miles vanquished Wohlstrom, 6-1, 6-1, at the No. 6 position. No. 72 Bekerova then downed Hoch, 6-2, 6-4, at the No. 2 spot, setting up Craig for the match clincher. No. 123 Craig then routed Tripolskay at the third slot, 6-2, 6-2, making the score 4-0 in favor of the Utes.

Utah closed in on a nearly undefeated match when junior Elena Najera-Salas then captured a 7-5, 6-2 victory over Rabot at the No. 5 position, giving the Utes a 5-0 advantage. Despite taking the first set, 3-6, Kovarcikova battled Burich to 7-6(3), 10-1 in the subsequent sets at the No. 4 position, giving Wisconsin their only point of the match. No. 103 Pham then posted Utah's sixth point at the top spot, besting Chypyha, 3-6, 6-4, 6-2.

The Utes return to action Saturday in Chicago against No. 71 DePaul at 1 p.m. MT. Be sure to check back to utahutes.com for results following the match.
