ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The University of Utah women's tennis team wrapped up play at the UNM Fall Invitational Sunday at the Linda Estes Tennis Center. Sophomore Tereza Bekerova captured the No. 1 singles title, while fellow Ute junior Lucia Kovarcikova netted the No. 3 singles championship.
"We played 15 matches at this tournament and won 13 of them," stated head coach Mat Iandolo. "That says a lot about how these young women performed this weekend and sets us up well for next week's tournament."
Bekerova battled Michaela Bezdickova of New Mexico in the cherry flight final round to a tight 7-6, 6-3 victory to claim the No. 1 singles championship title. Kovarcikova then downed Western New Mexico's Ganna Tiurina in the turquoise flight, 6-3, 6-1, netting the No. 3 singles championship title.
Sophomore Natasha Smith fell to Dominika Kanakova of South Carolina in the silver flight finals, 6-4, 6-2.
