No. 49 Utah heads to UVa Winter Classic...
The 49th-ranked University of Utah women's tennis heads to the University of Virginia Winter Classic, Jan. 14-16. This is the fourth consecutive year the Utes have opened their spring season at the event in Charlottesville, Va.

"We are looking forward to this weekend's competition," said head coach Mat Iandolo. "It will be a great opportunity to assess where we are at the beginning of our first Pac-12 dual-match season."

Joining No. 49 Utah at the invitational will be No. 9 Virginia, No. 23 Alabama and No. 62 Wake Forest.

Last year at the Winter Invite...
Last year at the UVa winter invitational senior Anastasia Putilina, sophomore Lucia Kovarcikova and former Ute Evgenia Kryuchkova all captured singles wins over ranked opponents on the first day of play.

Kovarcikova upset Virginia's 73rd-ranked Hana Tomlijanvoc, while Putilina defeated UVa's 88th-ranked Emily Fraser and Kryuchkova upset 29th-ranked Erin Vierra of Virginia.

Also notching singles wins at the Invitational were sophomore Sarah Pham, junior Paige Miles and redshirt junior Lexi Provancha. Utah ended the tournament winning a total of nine singles and two doubles matches.

Utes in the ITA Rankings...
Utah landed at No. 49 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's first poll of the season, released Jan. 3. Putilina landed at No. 90 in the singles rankings.
