SALT LAKE CITY – The No. 58 Utah women’s tennis team heads to Los Angeles, Calif. for the ITA Kickoff Weekend Jan. 24-25 at USC’s Marks Stadium. The Utes will see No. 37 St. Mary’s for their first duel match of the season, followed by either No. 5 USC or No. 60 North Texas.
“We are very excited about opening the year in L.A. with an extremely competitive pool of teams,” said Utah head coach Mat Iandolo. “It will be a great opportunity for us.”
Friday’s match between the Utes and the Gaels is slated to begin at 10 a.m. PT.

ITA Kickoff Weekend 2013
Last year, the No. 34 Utes netted a 4-1 victory over No. 69 Stephen F. Austin in their first duel match. The Utes moved on to the finals where they fell to No. 11 Texas, 4-1.
Last Time Out
The Utes are coming off a weekend at the Virginia Winter Invitational where they dueled No. 11 Virginia, No. 31 Tennessee, No. 39 Virginia Commonwealth and Marshall.
The highlight of the tournament for the Utes came in day two as Sarah Pham upset No. 28 Danielle Collins of VCU out of the second singles position, 6-2, 2-6, 1-0(8).
Utes in the Rankings
The Utes claimed 58th in the country as a team in the Jan. 2 ITA rankings, while Tereza Bekerova was listed at No. 107 in singles play.
Next Time Out
Utah Women’s Tennis is back in California shortly after their departure from the ITA Kickoff Weekend as they see No. 65 San Jose State in San Diego Feb. 6.
