This Week: Utah (5-4) travels to Manhattan, Kans. to take on Kansas State on Sat. Feb. 21 at 1:00 p.m.
About the Utes: The Utes defeated SMU 8-1 at home in Salt Lake. Anna Svedenhov defeated Margo Stevenson 6-2, 6-0. SMU's Patricia Ubeda-Diaz gave the Mustangs their only team point by defeating Megan Payne 6-4, 3-6, 6-4. Linda Engblom downed ChrissieWerding 6-2, 6-1. Angie Olson won her match 7-6, 6-3 against Ivette Reyes. Freshman Heidi Thomas defeated Sara Love Swaney 6-1, 602. Utah's Linda Petersson outlaster SMU's Sarah Braley 3-6, 7-5, 6-1.
In doubles, Payne teamed with to defeat the SMU team of Stevenson and Braley 8-7. Olson and rebecca Rushforth also won for the Utes as they downed Diaz and Reyes 8-4. The freshman tandem of Thomas and Petersson finished ou the victory for the Utes with a 8-4 win over Swaney and Werding.The win moved Utah's overall record above the .500 mark to 5-4. The Utes are 2-1 in Western Athletic Conference play.
Utah in the ITA Rankings: In the new February version of the ITA rankings, Anna Svedenhov moved to No. 40 nationally in singles. Svedenhov also teamed with Linda Engblom to jump onto the doubles rankings at No. 30. Utah remains No. 64, as new team rankings are not due out until Tues. March 10.
Looking Ahead: Utah returns home to begin a crucial four match home stand. The stretch begins with a match against in-state rival Weber State on March 4. The Utes then take on Boise State on March 8 in a big Central Region matchup. North Carolina and South Carolina both ranked teams visit Salt Lake on March 11 and 22 respectively.
