Last Time Out

Utah saw USC on Sunday at Coach Mike's Tennis Academy where the 10th-ranked Trojans bested the No. 37 Utes, 4-1. Senior Paige Miles collected the Utes only victory of the afternoon, executing an upset of No. 76 Zoe Katz out of the fifth singles position (6-3, 6-3).

Quick Hits

  • Utah has tallied five victories over ranked opponents this season, collecting wins over No. 23 Houston, No. 50 Denver, No. 53 Washington State, No. 60 North Texas and No. 71 BYU.
  • The Utes victory over Houston marked the teams' second win over a higher-ranking squad. The first came against Denver.
  • Playing out of the second singles position, Sarah Pham has amassed a 10-2 record. The senior has dropped her only matches this season to Hermon Brhane of Oklahoma and No. 16 Jennifer Brady of UCLA.

 

 

In the Rankings

  • The Utes have earned recognition in all nine of the ITA NCAA Division I polls beginning Jan. 2. After besting No. 23 Houston last week, the team made their largest leap in the polls. Utah shot up from their previous No. 37 ranking to claim a season-low 27th on March 18.
  • Tereza Bekerova was awarded singles No. 107 in the Jan. 2 rankings, while Pham grabbed No. 111 on Feb. 11. After being absent from the rankings for several weeks, Bekerova earned No. 125 on March 11.

Scouting the Opposition

No. 62 Marshall

The Heard rides a three match win streaking heading into tonight's match with their most recent victory coming against West Virginia State (7-0). Currently sitting at No. 62, Marshall has held a position in the ITA rankings since Feb. 18. The Heard has captured a season-high No. 70 (Feb. 18) and a season-low No. 59 (Feb. 25).

No. 16 California

The Golden Bears hold a 7-4 season record with all four losses coming against top-10 teams. They most recently blanked Washington at home, 7-0.

No. 4 Stanford

The Cardinal earned their first Pac-12 victory of the season and improved to 8-0 with a win over Cal on March 14, 5-2. The Stanford squad boasts six of six singles players ranked in the top-40, while two doubles duos are also ranked.

The Utes see one last opponent at home before hitting the road again. Utah hosts Montana on April 2 at the Eccles Tennis Center. First serve is scheduled for 5 p.m.
