SALT LAKE CITY - The 46th-ranked University of Utah women's tennis team (9-6, 1-0) hosts Mountain West Conference opponents 59th-ranked UNLV (14-2, 1-0) on March 31 and 72nd-ranked San Diego State (7-7, 0-1) on April 3.
"It's not going to get any easier even after beating our in-state rival BYU," said head coach Mat Iandolo. " We have to play the defending conference champs UNLV followed by a strong SDSU team. If we can be competitive and win both matches it sets us up for a serious run at the conference championship."
Utah is coming off a, 5-2, win over in-state rival BYU (4-10, 0-1) in its opening conference match this past weekend at home.
The Utes have gone 2-1 against the Cougars since Iandolo took over the program three years ago. They are now 7-0 at home this season for the first time in the program's history.
UNLV, the 2009 MWC regular season champions, defeated Boise State, 4-3, this past weekend. The Rebels are on an 11-0 streak that includes a, 4-3, conference win over SDSU. Last year the Utes fell, 5-2, at UNLV.
SDSU's last action was the, 4-3, road loss to UNLV. They face BYU in Provo before heading to Salt Lake City. Last year the Utes upset the Aztecs, 4-3, in the first round of the 2009 MWC Championship tournament but fell to them during the regular season, 5-2, in Las Vegas.
The matches will be held at either the George S. Eccles Tennis Center (temperature below 50°F) or Coach Mike's Tennis Academy, 1216 S. Wasatch Drive (temperature above 50°F).
