Utes Take On Texas Tech in First Round of NCAA Championships...
The University of Utah women's tennis team (11-10) will face Texas Tech (19-5) in the first round of the 2012 NCAA Championships Friday, May 11, at 10 a.m. ET, in Coral Gables, Fla. This is the third consecutive year the Utes have earned a spot in the NCAA tournament.

"We are very excited to travel to Coral Gables to compete in our third NCAA tournament in a row," said head coach Mat Iandolo. "I think this shows that we are becoming an excellent tennis program, not just a good team. The next step for us is to make a run deep into the event."

Utah is a 33-48 seed while Texas Tech is a 17-32 seed. Utah is ranked No. 40 in the nation while Texas Tech is ranked No. 21. First and Second Round host Miami (17-4) is the 10th-seeded team in the tournament and will face 49-64 seed North Florida (16-4) in the first round.

The winner of the Utes-Red Raiders match will face the Hurricanes-Ospreys winner in the second round Saturday, May 12, at 1 p.m. ET.

Scouting the Red Raiders...
Texas Tech will be making its first ever NCAA appearance after earning a national ranking of No. 21 and capturing its first Big 12 Conference regular season title with an 8-1 record in league play.

The Red Raiders are led by 104th-ranked sophomore Sam Adams and freshman Kenna Kilgo, who have both reached the 20-win mark in singles. Adams and Kilgo are also the 28th-ranked doubles duo in the nation.

The Utes are 2-0 against Texas Tech under Iandolo and hold a 3-2 lead in the all-time series.

Last Time Against the Red Raiders...
Earlier this year Utah captured a 4-3 upset over Texas Tech in a neutral court match in Las Vegas, Nev. Sophomore Lucia Kovarcikova earned the clinching point by defeating Kilgo, 6-4, 4-6, 6-1, at the No. 5 singles spot.

Senior Anastasia Putilina, ranked No. 52, sophomore Callie Craig and freshman Danielle Flores earned the Utes' first three points, setting Kovarcikova up to clinch the match.

The Hurricanes and the Ospreys...
Miami is hosting the NCAA first and second rounds for the eighth consecutive year and has advanced into the NCAA Sweet 16 six years in a row. The Hurricanes finished third in the Atlantic Coast Conference after going 9-2 in league play and are a perfect 14-0 at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center this season.

North Florida earned an automatic bid to this year's NCAA Championships after winning the Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament. The Ospreys are currently on a 12-match run.

Utah at the NCAA Championships...
This will be Utah's third consecutive appearance at the NCAA tournament, marking the first time the program has accomplished this since making three back-to-back showings from 1996-1998.

Last year in the first round, the Utes dropped a 4-0 decision to Alabama in Athens, Ga. Utah is 0-5 in NCAA Championship play and has yet to advance to the tournament's second round.

Last Time Out at the Pac-12 Championships...
Utah finished the regular season tied for seventh in its first season in the talent-loaded Pac-12 Conference. At the Pac-12 Championships, freshman Natasha Smith advanced to the quarterfinals of the Pac-12 Women's Singles Invitational, while Putilina made it to the second round of the Pac-12 Women's Singles Championship. In doubles, the duo of Flores and Smith reached the quarterfinals of the Pac-12 Women's Doubles Invitational.
