SKILLMAN, N.J.- Two members of the University of Utah women's tennis team earned ITA Regional Awards, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association announced Tuesday. Senior Anastasia Putilina has been voted the ITA Mountain Region Senior Player of the Year, while sophomore Sarah Pham was named the ITA Mountain Region Player to Watch.
"This is another well deserved award for Anastasia," said head coach Mat Iandolo. "She is one of the best female tennis players to ever play at the U.
"Sarah has shown a great deal of promise to this point," Iandolo continued. "We will look to her to take it to a new level next year."
Putilina, who is currently No. 54 in the ITA singles rankings, accrued an overall singles record of 27-14, going 14-7 in dual-match play at the No. 1 singles position. The Ute was also named All Pac-12 Conference Honorable Mention after going 5-5 in league singles play.
Putilina was also selected to compete in the NCAA Singles Championships for the second year in a row. The Ute faces Natalie Pluskota of Tennessee in the first round Wednesday, May 23, at noon in Athens, Ga.
Pham went 24-18 in singles this season, passing the 20-win mark for a second-consecutive year. The Ute captured upset wins over five top 100-ranked singles players and earned her first national singles ranking in February.
