Utah Women's Tennis Acquires Standout Player

SALT LAKE CITY- The University of Utah women's tennis head coach Mat Iandolo has added transfer Callie Craig to the 2011-12 Utah roster. Craig, a sophomore, joins the Ute squad from BYU.

"Callie was first team all- MWC in singles and doubles last year," said Iandolo. "She will have an immediate impact on top part of line up and we are thrilled to have her join us.

"Callie's grandfather, Wayne Pearce, coached BYU men's tennis for a long time and played his collegiate career at Utah," Iandolo continued. "Her uncle Brad Pearce was a Wimbledon quarterfinalist and currently head men's coach at BYU. Her mother Leslie also played tennis at BYU."

During her her freshman year at BYU , Craig, a native of Orem, Utah, accrued an overall singles record of 22-13 and went 22-11 in doubles with partner Megan Price. The duo of Craig and Price upset 22nd-ranked Kristi Boxx and Abby Guthrie of Ole Miss at the Memphis Invitational and were also nationally ranked three times throughout the 2010-11 season. Craig's twin sister Kelsie is currently a member of the BYU women's tennis team.

In addition to being all-MWC in singles and doubles last year, the new Ute was placed on the Academic All-MWC Team and earned the MWC Scholar-Athlete Award.
