Utah out-hit the Lobos .287 to .185 on the match. Utah also reverted to a 5-1 (one setter) offensive scheme. "When we run a 5-1, it frees up Kim and Sylva to be attackers for us," Head Coach Beth Launiere said. "I think it's the best thing for us."

In game one, New Mexico jumped out to a 6-1 lead, but the Utes closed the gap and tied it at 10. The game stayed close until the Lobos pulled ahead 22-16. New Mexico went on to win 30-25. Meanwhile, sophomore setter Kelsie Kartchner finished with a season and career-high 58 assists. "Kelsie did a really nice job setting tonight," Launiere said. "She had good location."

Junior libero Jackie Morrill led Utah with 17 digs.

"We played pretty good volleyball for 3 1/2 games," Launiere said. "This was the time that we didn't have a mid-week match and had three practices in a row without a match since the preseason. It allowed us to really work on some things."
