ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The No. 9-ranked University of Utah volleyball team (22-2, 13-0 Mountain West) continued its dominating run by beating conference rival New Mexico tonight, 3-1. The win extends Utah's winning streak to 20 straight matches.

Utah nabs the win on scores of 30-17, 30-17, 31-33 and 30-19. UNM falls to 8-18 overall and to 4-10 in MWC play.

"It was one of our best offensive matches of the year and we also held New Mexico to less than 100 points," said head coach Beth Launiere. "We played a good volleyball match, except for a small lapse game three.

"But, I was glad to see us get two big wins this weekend. I was very pleased with our energy, focus and our execution over these last two matches."

Utah hit no worse than .367 (12-1-30) in its three wins. It did slip in the third-game, extra-point loss. The Utes hit a match-low .293 (18-6-41) in the setback.

The Utes finished the match hitting an impressive .356 and were led by the 20-kill, 10-dig effort of Airial Salvo. She led the team in hitting an eye-popping .514 for the match.

She was one of four Utes to top the 10-kill plateau for the match. Lori Baird had 13 kills and nearly had a double-double with a match-high nine blocks. Kathryn Lovell tallied 11 kills and Whitney Webb had 10.

Sydney Anderson engineered the offense in handing out 47 assists. She too had a double-double on the night, helping the defense out with 13 digs of her own.

The Utes held the Lobos to a meager .093 (50-36-150) for the match and held the 17.5-9 edge in team blocks. Leading the Ute defense was the nine-block outing of Baird. She had help at the net with Emillie Toone's and Webb's six total blocks each. Lovell had five and Anderson four.

 

 

A trio of Utah players had double-digit digs on the night. In addition to Anderson and Salvo, Connie Dangerfield tallied a match-high 15 digs.

Leading the Lobo's tonight were Jeanne Fairchild (21 kills), Sarah Kwasigroch (47 assists), Rose Morris (11 digs) and Allison Suiter (five total blocks).

Utah returns to action for its regular-season home finale on Thursday, Nov. 9. The Utes host Wyoming in their bid for a perfect home slate. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
