SALT LAKE CITY -- In perhaps its most dominant performance of the season, the Utah volleyball team swept Western Athletic Conference rival SMU 15-12, 15-9, 15-9 on Thursday night at Crimson Court. The match took just one hour and seven minutes.
Jen Snow and Kalani Tonga each led Utah with a match-high nine kills. Snow also hit .467 and Tonga had six blocks. Brenda Barton- Whicker and Sara Shakula each had eight kills. Barton-Whicker also posted a match-high eight digs and six blocks. Graciela Torres had 29 assists.
Utah outhit SMU .351 to .082 and had 11 blocks to the Mustangs' four. Erin Pryor led the Ponies with eight kills.
"We had good focus in practice all week getting ready for these matches this weekend," said Ute head coach Beth Launiere. "We were just very well prepared tonight, let loose and played. There wasn't anything that we didn't do well tonight."
Utah improves to 15-4 overall and 6-1 in the WAC. SMU falls to 12-11 and 2-5. Utah plays at No. 6 Brigham Young on Friday night.
