SALT LAKE CITY -- Sara Shakula posted a match-high 14 kills and hit .737 as Utah swept past Air Force in Western Athletic Conference volleyball on Friday night at Crimson Court.
Utah won by scores of 15-7, 15-6, 15-5. The Utes improve to 19-7 overall, 8-4 in the WAC. Air Force falls to 5-23 and 0-10 in the league.
Kalani Tonga had 12 kills and hit .611 for the Utes. Brenda Barton-Whicker posted eight kills and seven digs. Jen Snow and Stacie Greenwalt also each had eight kills. Jamie Young returned to the line-up after an extended absence due to a back injury with seven digs. Graciela Torres had 34 assists.
The Utes outhit the Falcons .400 to .165 and had nine blocks to AFA's four.
"I though that we played well on our side of the net," said Ute head coach Beth Launiere. "Sara Shakula played a great match and didn't make any errors. Kalani Tonga also had a good night. We got her a lot of sets and she had the chance to work on her slide, which we wanted."
Utah hosts UNLV on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. at Crimson Court.
