LOGAN, Utah -- Utah opened the Utah State Invitational Friday night with a four-game win over Montana State.
Montana State (8-3) took the opening game 15-13, but then Utah (7-3) bounced back to dominate the next three games 15-13, 15-10, 15-5. It was the sixth-consecutive win for the Utes. The Utes hit .429 in the second game, and held a .185 to .095 advantage over the Bobcats for the match.
Freshman Jen Snow had the best match of her career, posting 13 kills, a .370 hitting percentage and three digs. Sara Shakula had a solid match as well with 11 kills, a .370 hitting percentage, 18 digs and five block assists. Kalani Tonga had nine kills, seven blocks, 14 digs and hit .333. Brenda Barton-Whicker came up with nine kills and 13 digs and Jamie Young had 17 digs.
Montana State was led by Mindy Nowak's 10 kills and five digs. Utah continues tournament play on Saturday. The Utes face Portland at 10:30 a.m. and Utah State at 5:00 p.m.
