Makenzie Moea'i and the Utes did not lose a set while going 4-0 last Saturday at the Utah Spring Tournament.

SALT LAKE CITY - The University of Utah volleyball team went 4-0 in match play and did not drop a set during its annual Utah Spring Tournament last Saturday at Crimson Court (HPER E101).
The Utes hosted seven other schools --- BYU, College of Southern Idaho, Montana State, Salt Lake Community College, Utah State, Utah Valley and Weber State --- and the eight-team field was divided into two pools of four. The three matches in pool play were scheduled for three sets apiece and the winner of each pool faced off in a best-of-three final match.
Utah defeated Weber State (2-0; 25-16, 25-17), SLCC (2-0; 25-9, 25-20), BYU (2-0; 25-22, 25-18) in pool play before defeating Utah Valley (2-0; 25-17, 25-22) for the tournament title.
Details of each match are posted below:
Pool Play - Match 1: Utah def. Weber State, 2-0 (25-16, 25-17)
Utah hit .372 while holding Weber State to -.075 as five Utes hit .375 or better in the first match of the day. Shelby Dalton hit a team-high .571, while both Morgan Odale and Erin Redd hit .500 and Chelsey Schofield hit .429 and Makenzie Moea'i turned in a .375 mark against the Wildcats.
Pool Play - Match 2: Utah def. SLCC, 2-0 (25-9, 25-20)
Utah hit .362 against SLCC and held the Bruins to .000. Bateman went for a flawless 1.000 hitting percentage on the attack, while Moea'i paced the Ute right-side hitters by hitting .667. Odale was not far behind with a .583 clip, while Schofield hit .500 and Redd hit .400.
Pool Play - Match 3: Utah def. BYU, 2-0 (25-22, 25-18)
The Utes outhit the Cougars .315 to .254 and used an 8.0-3.0 advantage in team blocks to secure the victory over BYU to win the pool and gain a berth into the tournament final. Moea'i continued on her tear as she hit 1.000 in the match, while Redd (.625) and Schofield (.533) also turned in impressive hitting percentage. Bateman added a .286 from her middle-blocker post.
In the tournament final, Utah pounded down kills at a .313 clip and held UVU to .178. The Utes also outblocked the Wolverines, 8.0 to 2.0. Schofield shined as she turned in a .500 efficiency on the attack. Redd registered a .429 hitting percentage, Odale hit for .400, Dalton went for .364 in addition to Moea'i's .286 output.
