WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Outside hitter Shelby Dalton and coach Beth Launiere will represent the University of Utah on the Pac-12 Conference's all-star women's volleyball team that will play in China in June.

Dalton will play at outside hitter on the squad and Launiere will serve as an assistant coach. The team is made up of 12 student-athletes from 10 different Pac-12 institutions and will play at least six matches against Chinese professional club teams over two weeks in Beijing and Shanghai.

"The cultural and competitive opportunity these players will experience can't be valued," Launiere said. "From a volleyball perspective, the competition both from our opponents and within the Pac-12 All-Star Team will be strong. Shelby will get to play volleyball at an extremely high level for 13 days during the summer."

In addition to the matches, the student-athletes and coaches will get a chance to enjoy the culture of China, which will include sightseeing visits to the Great Wall, Forbidden City, Summer Palace and other attractions.

"I'm excited for Shelby and myself to get to visit some of the most historic places in the world," Launiere said. "It's a great opportunity for everyone involved."

Dalton was a member of the U.S. Women's National A2 Team last summer and earned Honorable Mention Academic All-Pac-12 distinction last season. From her right-side hitter post, Dalton finished 10th in the Pac-12 with 1.14 blocks per set in league play and 1.06 blocks per set overall during her sophomore season. Offensively, Dalton averaged 1.78 kills per set with a .254 hitting percentage last season. The Moab, Utah native has 345 kills (1.78 kps) and 194 blocks (1.00 bps) through her first two seasons as a Ute and currently has a .237 career hitting percentage.

Launiere is entering her 24th year as the head coach of the Utes and has a 450-277 (.619) career record. She is no stranger to international campaign after earning the opportunity to coach for USA Volleyball during each summer from 2009 through 2011. She coached the USA/BIP Team at the 2011 European Global Challenge in Belgrade, Serbia and Pula, Croatia in July of 2011 and was head coach of the USA National A2 Program in May of 2010 at the Open Division of the USA Open National Championships in Phoenix, Ariz. Launiere was also on the sidelines as an assistant coach for the U.S. Women's National Team at the 2009 FIVB World Grand Prix in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Li Miao, Chinese Taipei and Bangkok, Thailand.
