COLORADO SPRINGS - Outside hitters Morgan Odale and Chelsey Schofield of the University of Utah volleyball team were selected for the U.S. Women's National Volleyball Senior A2 Program, USA Volleyball announced.
This program is scheduled to take place in Dallas from June 25 to July 4 in conjunction with the USA Volleyball Girls' Junior National Championships.
"We are excited for Morgan and Chelsey for making the USA A2 team this summer," Utah Head Coach Beth Launiere said. "It is an honor to have two Utah players represented on the USA team and an honor for them to have USA on their jersey. It will be a great competition and an opportunity to play high level volleyball during the summer in preparation for the 2013 Utah volleyball season."
In three years as a starter, Odale has already become the 13th member of Utah's 1,000-kill club as she has 1,020 career kills. She is also poised to become the eighth of the school's 1,000-dig club as she has 831 career digs. The Star, Idaho native owns 21 career double-doubles. Last season, Odale finished second in the Pac-12 with 0.33 service aces per set and was third in league with 0.33 service aces per set during league matches.
Schofield is on pace to join Odale in the 1,000-kill club near the end of the 2013 campaign. The Provo, Utah native is 291 kills shy of the mark after averaging 354.5 kills per season during her first two seasons with the Utes. One of Utah's most consistent attackers, Schofield has 41 career double-figure-kill matches, including a stretch of 10 or more kills in 13 straight matches, beginning at Arizona on Nov. 11, 2011 to Sept. 1, 2012 against North Carolina.
After pool play, the four A2 program teams and PVL teams will split into their own divisions to determine the medalist teams in the competition.
The athletes were selected via the U.S. Women's National Volleyball Team Open Tryouts held Feb. 22-24 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs. For more information, read the USA Volleyball release at teamusa.org.
