SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - The Utah volleyball team was voted to finish 10th in the 2014 Pac-12 Volleyball Preseason Coaches poll, announced by the league office on Wednesday.

The Utes, who were picked ninth in last season’s preseason poll, finished 8-11 in Pac-12 play in 2013 and finished in a tie for seventh in the league standings. Overall, the Utes went 21-13 in 2013 and earned the program’s 11th trip to NCAA postseason play where the team defeated Yale 3-1 in first round action before falling 0-3 to the eventual National Champions of Penn State.

Stanford was picked to win the league for the second-straight season after receiving five first-place votes for a total 114 points, narrowly out-voting USC who was picked to finish second after also receiving five first-place votes for a total of 113 points.

Last season’s Pac-12 Champions and National Runners-Up, Washington, was picked to finish third in the poll after receiving the final two first-place votes for a total of 106 points. Arizona State (73 points) was tabbed fourth in the poll, while California (70) and Oregon (70) tied for fifth in the voting. Colorado (62), UCLA (58) and Arizona (51) were each picked ahead of Utah (39), while Washington State (25) and Oregon State (11) rounded out the coaches poll.

Utah returns nine letterwinners from last year’s squad, including Shelby Dalton who was selected to the 2013 AVCA All-American Honorable Mention squad. Along with Dalton, Chelsey Schofield, Bailey Bateman, Kendall Cygan, Kalee Kirby, Lea Adolph and Tess Sutton all return to head coach Beth Launiere’s team with significant experience from the 2013 campaign.

The Utes are set to begin fall camp this Saturday, Aug. 9, and the season-opener is scheduled for Friday, Aug. 29, as the team hosts the 2014 Utah Classic. Utah’s first Pac-12 match of the season is set for Thursday, Sept. 25 in Boulder, Colo. at Colorado.
