On the heels of a five-set victory over Washington State last night, the University of Utah volleyball team hosts No. 1 Washington.
The Utes are 13-2 overall and 2-1 in conference play with a 5-2 record in the Huntsman Center this season.
Closing the Deal: In the fifth set of last night's match, Utah grabbed a critical 3-1 lead over Washington State to start the frame and would extend out to a six-point lead at 13-7 on the way to a 15-8 match-clinching victory.
In the finale, Utah limited WSU to a .000 hitting percentage, while junior right-side hitter Shelby Dalton (Moab, Utah) and senior middle blocker Erin Redd-Brandon (Spanish Fork, Utah) turned in two kills apiece.
Going the Distance: After the win over Washington State, Utah improved to 4-1 in five-set matches this season with wins over Colorado on Sept. 24, New Mexico State on Sept. 19 and Utah State on Aug. 30.
Milestone Tracker: With five blocks in last night's contest against WSU, Redd-Brandon moved into fourth place in school history with 453 career block assists and took sole possession of sixth place in school history with 478 total blocks.
Senior outside hitter Morgan Odale (Star, Idaho) recorded her fourth double-double of the season and the 25th of her career. She turned in 13 kills to go with a match-high 20 digs with two blocks. She is now ninth in school history with 993 career digs and is seven shy of joining Utah's 1,000-dig club.
Odale can become one of three players in school history to be a member of three of Utah's milestone clubs (Jenni Eyre (1984-87) and Lori Baird (2005-08)). Odale is ninth in school history with 1,160 career kills and tied for sixth with 11 career aces.
Spurrier Steps Up: Junior right-side hitter Alli Spurrier (Salt Lake City, Utah) turned in a career-high 12 kills in last night's five-set win over Washington State, in addition to four blocks against the Cougars.
Spurrier put up nine kills on three separate occasions, most recently against Prairie View A&M on Sept. 7, 2013. She went for a season-high .467 hitting percentage in the match.
Last weekend, Spurrier registered six kills on 15 attempts with just one error for .333 clip against USC on Sept. 29 to go with three blocks and two digs against the Women of Troy.
This season, Spurrier is hitting 2.00 kills per set with a .221 hitting percentage.
