SALT LAKE CITY - Sophomore middle blocker Bailey Bateman of the University of Utah volleyball team was selected to the Capital One CoSIDA All-District VIII Second Team for the first time in her career, it was announced.
Bateman ranks 11th in the NCAA and second in the Pac-12 Conference with 1.54 blocks per set this season and she is also second in the Pac-12 with 1.53 blocks per set in league play.
"Bailey has worked hard on the court and in the classroom," Utah head coach Beth Launiere said. "She has committed herself to being a great student-athlete and is excelling at figuring out how to be the best she can be at both. We are proud of her accomplishments and look forward to her continued growth as a volleyball player and student."
Bateman has led or tied for team lead in blocks 18 times this year.
The Hooper, Utah native had a career-high 12 blocks against Bowling Green on Sept. 8, which is tied for the third-highest five-set-match output in the Pac-12 this year and just one shy of tying teammate Erin Redd's school record for block assists in a five-set match. She put together her first career double-double against the Falcons with a career-high 14 kills on 22 swings for a .636 hitting percentage.
Bateman turned in second career double-digit-block output with 10 against Arizona State on Oct. 14, the most for a three-set match in the Pac-12 this season.
Earlier this season, she was named to Utah Classic All-Tournament Team after averaging 1.89 blocks and 1.89 kills per set with a .314 hitting percentage in matches against Utah Valley, Cal Poly and Nevada.
The Utes host a pair of Pac-12 matches this weekend at Crimson Court, beginning Friday at 7 p.m. against No. 8 USC. Utah takes on No. 6 UCLA on Saturday at 7 p.m.
