SALT LAKE CITY - The fifth-seeded Utes open the Mountain West Conference tournament on Tuesday, Nov. 22, against No. 4 seed TCU, beginning at 4 p.m. PT.

The Week In Review
Utah closed the regular season on a winning note, upsetting No. 25 UNLV, 3-1, and sweeping San Diego State, 3-0.

Five players tallied double digits against the Rebels, led by Whitney Webb's 17. Kate Robison had a double-double with 15 kills and 13 digs.

The Utes held the Rebels to a .144 hitting percentage on the night. Connie Dangerfield had a second-high 29 digs.

Against the Aztecs, the Utes hit .393, their best percentage of the season. Robison led Utah with 13 kills and nine digs.

Utah in the MWC Tournament
The Utes have won three MWC Tournament Championships in conference history - 2001, 2002 and 2005. Utah has reached the title match six times - 2001-06'.

Last season, the Utes held a 2-0 lead over Colorado State in the final before falling, 3-2.

Two Utes have won MWC Tournament Most Valuable Player - Kim Turner (2002) and Shelly Sommerfeldt (2005). Lori Baird is one of four Utes who were on the all-tournament team last season.

Against the Best
The Utes have played seven teams ranked in the AVCA top 25 this season, coming away with two wins. Utah defeated No. 17 Purdue (3-2) and downed No. 25 UNLV, 3-1.

The Utes played competitive matches against No. 4 USC, No. 5 UCLA, No. 6 Florida and No. 22 New Mexico State, losing several games in each match by just a few points. In addition, the Utes fell to Dayton, 3-2, which moved into the rankings after playing Utah. Colorado State was ranked at No. 21 during the second meeting between the two teams this year while BYU has also been ranked this season.

Holding Opponents
Utah leads the MWC in opponent hitting percentage. The Utes are holding opponents to just a .173 hitting percentage. Utah has held opponents below .100 three times, holding Dayton (8/31) to .080, Air Force (9/28 and 10/27) to .008 and .071, respectively, and Utah Valley (10/23) to .067.

Middle (Wo)man
Senior Lori Baird leads the Utes in blocking, averaging 1.54 blocks per game, which ranks second in the MWC. She is also in the top-10 in the conference with a .303 hitting percentage.

Baird was named MWC Co-Player of the Week on Oct. 29.

Dangerous Dangerfield
Senior Connie Dangerfield broke the Utah career record for digs against Wyoming on Sept. 29. She currently has 1,513 career digs, which breaks the Utah previous record of 1,313, set in 1997 by Brenda Barton-Whicker. Dangerfield is currently averaging 4.14 digs per game.

Dangerfield was named to the all-tournament team of the AVCA Showcase. She averaged 5.38 digs per game at the showcase, more than any other player.

Hot Haynie
Junior Kathryn Haynie leads the Utes with 3.64 kills per game. She has led the team in kills (or tied for the team lead) in 14 matches this season. Her career-high of 22 kills came against San Diego State on Sept. 13.

In addition, Haynie leads the team with 28 service aces. She had a career-best four against Weber State.

Haynie is also a standout in the classroom and was named a 2007 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VIII first-team selection. She will be placed on the ballot for All-America honors.

Spinning the Webb
Senior Whitney Webb has surged in recent matches for Utah. The past three matches, she is averaging 4.20 kills per game, hitting .346. She led the Utes with 13 kills vs. BYU and 17 kills against UNLV.

For the season, Webb is averaging 3.35 kills per game and 1.22 digs per game with a .198 hitting percentage.

Fantastic Freshmen
Freshmen Keisha Fisher, Karolina Bartkowiak and Stephanie Shardlow have each made significant contributions in their first year with Utah. Fisher made her first start for the Utes against UCLA. She has had 12 double-doubles this season. Fisher currently leads the Utes with 8.31 assists per game.

Bartkowiak is also a regular on the floor. She is third on the team with 1.04 blocks per game.

Shardlow is averaging 6.71 assists per game. She had the first double-double of her career against Colorado State (39 assists, 11 digs) and currently has four total.

Leilani Ili has also played as a freshman.
