WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Five University of Utah student-athletes were named to the Pac-12 Women's Volleyball All-Academic Team, the conference office announced Wednesday. Right-side hitter Alli Spurrier was named to the first team, libero Lea Adolph earned second-team recognition, while Bailey Bateman, Shelby Dalton, Chelsey Schofield earned Honorable Mention status.
"We are proud of all our players for what they do on the court and in the classroom," Utah head coach Beth Launiere said. "It is great to have these five athletes recognized for their hard work. It is not easy being a Division I student-athlete. They are amazing people that do amazing things on a daily basis."
Spurrier has come on strong late this season, averaging 1.56 kills per set with a .301 hitting percentage in Utah's last nine matches. She set a new career-high mark with nine kills in both matches last week against both ASU and Arizona. Spurrier is also carrying a 4.0 GPA in the classroom.
Adolph is averaging 3.19 digs and 0.19 service aces per set over Utah's last seven matches, all starts. She has reached double-figures in digs in each of the Utes' last seven matches. She has surpassed the 10-dig mark 13 times in 2012 and 17 times during her career. Adolph set a new career-high mark with 22 digs against Washington on Nov. 4.
Bateman was selected to the Capital One CoSIDA All-District VIII Second Team for the first time in her career earlier this month. She was ninth in blocking in last week's NCAA statistical rankings and second in the most recent Pac-12 statistics and currently is averaging 1.57 blocks per set overall. In league matches, Bateman ranks second in the conference with a 1.59 block-per-set average.
Schofield has had double-double performances in six of Utah's last seven matches and is currently on an eight-match double-digit-kill streak. On Monday at Cal, Schofield had a team-high 14 kills and 16 digs, which tied for team-high honors. She has had 10 or more digs in 28 times in her career and 13 times in 2012. The Provo, Utah native has 12 double-doubles this year and 20 during her career as a Ute.
